    Explore the striking beauty of deep, fern-covered valleys and eucalyptus forests during this journey by coach and rail through the Dandenong Ranges. You’ll drive through the suburb of Ferntree Gully, and on to the quaint township of Belgrave where you will board Puffing Billy, a vintage, narrow-gauge steam train. Take in wonderful views and photo opportunities of the picturesque scenery as your train weaves its way through the beautiful countryside.


    Upon reaching Menzies Creek, you’ll reboard your coach and make a visit to one of the numerous wineries in this region. After lunch at a winery, you’ll be invited to participate in a wine tasting. Next, you will cross the Great Dividing Range for a stop at the Healesville Sanctuary. Regarded as one of Australia's leading parks, it features over 200 species of native wildlife in a natural bush setting. Here, you can get acquainted with the kangaroos, koalas, lyrebirds, platypus, emus, and other Australian animals. You’ll have approximately 1 1/2 hours of free time to explore the park. Your tour concludes with a brief orientation tour of Melbourne's most popular sites.

    Head to the Gold Rush town of Sovereign Hill, where you will relive the joys, hardships, and daily life of miners and their families, in this open-air museum. The shops, miners' huts, cottages, hotels and public buildings have all been carefully preserved, and bring renewed life to the atmosphere of a bygone era. View displays documenting daily life in the 1850s, or visit craft and jewelry shops offering goods reminiscent of those available during the Gold Rush.


    During the early afternoon, you’ll enjoy lunch at a popular local restaurant and visit the historic town of Ballarat. While passing through its charming center, your driver will reveal its main highlights, including the impressive gardens.


    Visit the 37-acre Ballarat Wildlife Park, where you can observe free-roaming kangaroos, emus, Tasmanian devils, koalas and numerous other Australian fauna.

You will see large groups of free-range, Eastern gray kangaroos in a natural bush setting, and learn interesting facts about other Australian animals and birds. See a protected population of wallabies and get close to some native birds in their natural habitat before enjoying a BBQ lunch. Meet some of the local Aboriginal tribe, the Wathaurong who will share elements of their culture with you and perform some music on their didgeridoo.


    Next, you will proceed to a nearby national park to view koalas in the wild. Upon arrival, you will board the Puffing Billy, a vintage, narrow gauge steam train more than 100 years old. You will then proceed for an approximate 1-hour journey through the Dandenong Mountains. Along the way, you can sit and relax on the authentic bench-style seating, and take in the picturesque scenery as your train weaves its way through the scenic countryside.


    You’ll also enjoy a brief overview of Melbourne's highlights before returning to the pier.
