    Howler Monkey River Expedition

    Harvest Caye, Bélize

    Durée : 3 h 1/2

Cruise the winding Monkey River, looking for wildlife in the surrounding rainforest, and then enjoy a hike with a naturalist that will explain the plants' medicinal uses.

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive at a small village near the mouth of the Monkey River, where you will begin a leisurely cruise upstream. Along the way, the guide will provide enlightening commentary about the region's history, including how the economy boomed in the late 19th century when large volumes of bananas were exported.

Little evidence of that thriving time period remains, as the meandering Monkey River is bordered by undeveloped rainforest. Natural beauty and remarkably diverse flora and fauna are now the main attractions.

You can expect to see a variety of wildlife, including crocodiles sunning on the riverbanks, turtles popping their heads above the water's surface, and iguanas perched in the tree limbs. You might even spot a troop of black howler monkeys screeching in the forest.

Tropical birds are just as abundant along the river, especially wading birds such as herons, brightly colored tanagers and keel-billed toucans, the national bird of Belize. Toucans are easy to spot because of their large, colorful bills and how they croak like frogs.

Once you disembark, you will hike through the surrounding forest while the naturalist guide points out plants with medicinal qualities. For instance, leaves of the soursop are often brewed into a tea that reduces fever, and the wild yam has anti-inflammatory properties.

    Icy Strait Point, Alaska

    Durée : 2 h 1/2

    OVERVIEW

There is no better way to experience Alaska’s rugged terrain than by driving an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) through the forests and mountains on Chichagof Island. Following a short orientation on how best to operate an ATV in the Alaskan wilderness, you will set off on your outdoor adventure. The entire island (America’s fifth largest) lies within the limits of the 17-million-acre Tongass National Forest, which has the distinction of being America’s largest national forest. The terrain ranges from seaside estuaries to alpine mountain peaks, and you will have plenty of chances to stop and view the gorgeous scenery. With its remote location and limited accessibility, Chichagof is home to some of the animals most often associated with Alaska. In fact, the island has the world’s largest brown bear population, estimated to be three bears per square mile. Whale Watching Safari

    Puerto Vallarta, Mexique

    Durée : 3 h 1/2

Humpback Whales are by far the most expressive and captivating of all the large marine mammals which inhabit Pacific waters. Banderas Bay has one of the largest concentrations of these magnificent animals and it is here, in these protected waters that they come to mate and breed during winter months. Often they can be seen breeching, performing peduncle slaps and tail slaps that your expert guide will explain to you. This specialized excursion is designed to capture the magical moment when you encounter wild dolphins and majestic humpback whales.

The essence of this tour is to find the wildlife and enjoy those precious moments when you can sit peacefully and watch the whales and dolphins play, breach, eat, or just hang out. There is no such thing as a "typical day" on this adventure tour. Of course, you’ll have the chance to see the majesty of Banderas Bay and the abundance of marine life that lives here, as well as enjoy some light snacks and drinks, but often it is the "wild ones" (the whales and dolphins) who are in charge of the daily itinerary. We cannot always predict where they are, so we will let them guide us along their preferred route of the day.

    Bon à savoir :

Note: Participants must be at least 10 years of age. We recommend that you bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and your camera. Vessel is not wheelchair accessible. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. This tour is offered during whale watching season, from mid-December through mid-March. Transport use for this tour is an Inflatable Apex Speed Boat.
