hrs Estimate Duration
Striking scenery unfolds at every turn of the road in this wet and windy region that comprises part of the Chilean Patagonia. Puerto Chacabuco, one of the few places where the Andes touch the coastline compensates for the harsh climate with incredible natural beauty. The Carretera Austral Roadway makes the area more accessible for travelers who come to this area of Chile to experience frontier country.
Drive for an approximately one hour through stunning scenery, as you follow the river along the base of a deep gorge. At the Rio Simpson National Reserve, you can leave your coach and explore the Reserve for some wonderful views and photographs of this rugged scenery and also stop at the Visitor’s Center. Your return journey will take you through the small village of Aysen, surrounded by more spectacular scenery.
