Learn about local history, historical sites and monuments as you travel the streets of the city. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the natural history of the Kamchatka Peninsula, the lifestyle of its inhabitants and the city’s highlights.
Driving to Lenin Square, stop to see the monument to Lenin and view the Kamchatka Regional Administration building. At the foot of Nikolskaya Hill, where you’ll stop to view the Chapel Monument, devoted to the heroes of the Petropavlovsk Battle of 1854 and see the common grave where French, English and Russian soldiers were buried.
Stop at Liberty Square, home to another tribute to fallen soldiers, the Monument to the Kuril Islands Defenders which was erected in 1946 to commemorate the 1945 victory of Russian troops over Japanese force. You will also admire a Russian wooden church, built without nails. Make another photo stop by the sea side, and to the monument to Vitus Bering, the founder of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
No visit to Petropavlovsk is complete without a stop to admire the Russian Orthodox Cathedral. Located on the city’s highest point, it offers both a beautiful view of the building ad a privileged point to see the city’s panorama.
