hrs Estimate Duration
Tired of the typical bus and beach tours? Join this historical bike ride through the capital town of Philipsburg. This memorable tour is full of history and led by knowledgeable guides who will coach you along the way. After a short briefing on the basic use of the well maintained fleet of Trek bikes (both male and female specific bikes) enjoy a short test ride to make sure you are comfortable before setting out on the roads. Making your way through the streets of Philipsburg, enjoy the many stops at historical points of interest, to rest and learn some of the colorful history. Stops include: Passangrahn Hotel - St. Maarten’s oldest inn, Captain Hodge’s Wharf - the center of this bustling, colorful town and Philipsburg Courthouse, built in 1793. Next, you’ll ride up Little Bay Hill. Avid cyclists love this challenging incline, but feel free to walk with your bike if you prefer. A beautiful lookout over the town awaits you at the top.
The bike ride continues as you enter Divi Little Bay Resort and begin your second short incline to historical Fort Amsterdam. Built in 1631, this strategic point was the place of many battles between the Spanish and Dutch fleets in the 17th century. The remaining walls and cannons offer a glimpse into St. Maarten’s rich history as well as a sense of tranquility while you view Philipsburg and the Cruise Ship Terminal from this spectacular vantage point. From the Fort, return to Philipsburg along the Boardwalk, stopping at the popular Taloula Mango Restaurant for a short dip in the calm sea of Great Bay and a cold drink under the shade while chatting with your fellow cyclists. From there it is a short 10 minute ride back to the Cruise Ship Terminal.
