Discover Lithuania's natural beauty, and the former nuclear threat imposed by its Soviet neighbors, during this visit to the Plokstine Forest and Soviet Nuclear Weapons Site.

A stark reminder of the Cold War, the Soviet Nuclear Weapons Site was constructed in Zemaitija National Park under great secrecy in 1960, and became operational in 1963. Soldiers working around-the-clock excavated the silos by hand. Four silos housed the R 12 surface-to-surface missiles. The nuclear missiles were targeted towards the biggest European cities, including Berlin, London, Madrid and Paris. From this very same site in 1962 similar missiles were deployed to Cuba, in what became known as the Cuban missile crisis. The Nuclear Weapons Site was closed in 1979, but four silos and the central control complex remain.

In sharp contrast to this apocalyptic site, the Plokstine Forest is filled with an abundance of scenic vistas, and you will stop to view the most beautiful sites of the national park, including the crystal-clear waters of Plateliai Lake, and three spectacular islands.

During your visit to the nuclear weapons site, you will follow your guide through the 88.5-foot-deep corridors, mineshaft and underground tunnels of this old Soviet launch site. Along the way, you will see some of the symbols of the Soviet Army, and have an opportunity to climb through the narrow hatch and view one of the silos.

On your way back to Klaipeda you will stop for a light lunch of traditional national dishes and a local beer, in authentic Lithuanian restaurant.

Watch an entertaining folkloric performance of music and dance that reflects the very best of Puerto Rico and other Latin American countries.

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive at a popular venue for a folkloric performance that will highlight the traditional songs and dances of Puerto Rico. You can expect it to be an immensely entertaining, high-energy show.

After settling into your seat, the spectacle will begin with gusto. You will instantly recognize rhythms from other parts of the world that have influenced Puerto Rican music and dance. Many of the steps and sounds originated in Cuba, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and other Latin American countries.

You may notice African beats and a passion typically associated with Spain’s flamenco. The dancers will perform the mambo, which was invented in Havana in the 1930s, and the samba, a dance style from West Africa.

You will also enjoy parts of the show dedicated to La Plena, a genre of music and dance indigenous to Puerto Rico. Tambourines are the principal instruments in La Plena, although other instruments such as congas, trombones and guitars are often played.

In this folkloric show, the featured guitarist will be Juan Carlos, an entertainer that has traveled the world playing flamenco and singing in his distinct baritone voice.

Tour the distillery Casa Barcardi for an enlightening discovery of the famed rum’s history, production and characteristics, all of which have elevated it to a legendary status.

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive at Casa Bacardi, a beautiful Art Deco building where the enormously popular Bacardi rum is distilled. You might recognize the bat emblem on the front gate and throughout Casa Bacardi. It has been the company logo ever since the first distillery opened in a building that had fruit bats in the rafters.

Spanish immigrant Don Facundo Barcardí Massó founded the company in Cuba in 1830, but it was moved to Puerto Rico in the 1960s when the Cuban revolution intensified. Today, Bacardi is the world’s premier rum and your tour will explain many of the reasons.

As you walk through Casa Bacardi, you will learn about rum-making processes such as wood barreling, aging and finishing. You will also have the opportunity to participate in interactive exhibits and hear the attributes of the various rums.

Barcardi Carta Negra is a black rum developed in heavily charred oak barrels, while the Carta Blanca is known for being smooth and subtle. Bacardi also distills a spicy Carta Fuego rum and a complex Gran Reserve with notes of butterscotch and dried fruit.

The mixology demonstration is another highlight, as you will learn how to mix popular drinks such as a mojito and a Bacardi Mismo, another easy-drinking cocktail.

The new Seaworld Observatory is a state-of-the-art semi-submarine developed for comfort and maximum viewing in the shallow reefs. The vessel does not submerge. You descend into the hull of this cruising underwater observatory and sit in air-conditioned comfort five feet below the surface of the water. As you explore you’ll see an abundance of marine life through large, clear windows. Seaworld Observatory departs from the dock right by the cruise ship dock in downtown George Town. The first site you visit is a dramatic shipwreck, the Cali, a steel schooner built in 1900. This ship ran aground 100 yards off the coast of Grand Cayman in 1944.

From here, your Captain takes you to Cheeseburger Reef. Be sure to have your cameras ready when our diver enters the water and begins to feed the hundreds of multicolored tropical fish right in front of your window. A knowledgeable marine expert will provide answers to your questions and informational narration on the amazing underwater world around you. Hear more tales of the high seas as on your way to see the wreck of the Balboa. The Balboa a 375 foot freighter was traveling from Cayman to Cuba when she encountered one of the worst hurricanes in the island’s history on November 10, 1932. The Seaworld Observatory then brings you back to the dock in the heart of George Town.
