Enjoy a cooking class at a ranch in the country, where you will learn how to grill famously tender Uruguayan meats and then feast on the savory concoctions.
After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a scenic drive inland to La Salamora, an eco-ranch in the countryside. In this beautiful setting that typically attracts nature lovers; you will discover the Uruguayan art of “parrillada,” or grilling.
While learning how the meats are produced and supplied, you will snack on traditional appetizers such as cheeses, salamis and country bread. As a complement, you will sample traditional liquor made from the fruit of Pindo palms, also known as Jelly palms because their fruit is used for jams and jellies, as well. Or you may be served a grappa-like alcoholic beverage made with honey called grappamiel.
As the cooking class continues, you will learn more about various cuts of meat and sausages that are typically grilled. Peppers stuffed with provolone cheese and eggs are also popular items for grilling. In addition, the chef will share a recipe for a unique “parrillada” dressing.
You will even learn the proper way to start the fire, what woods burn best, and most essentially how to grill each item. As the meat cooks, you will prepare a classic dessert made with sweet potatoes and merengue. Of course, the highlight will be dining on the dishes and assorted sides. A digestive herb tea or coffee follows, after which you will return to the pier.

Note: This tour includes limited walking; however, there may be some significant standing required during the cooking class and there are some uneven surfaces at La Salamora. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns who are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate comfortable clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable shoes are recommended. Tour duration may vary due to traffic conditions.
