Explore Punta Arenas on foot and get closer to the locals. A walking tour is the best way to get to know a city and see it from a different perspective. Punta Arenas is a city of hard-working immigrants who have struggled against the harsh nature of this southerly, end-of-the-world land. You’ll visit some of the houses that they have inhabited and enjoy the calm music that has comforted them.
Your walk begins at the pier, covering the distance between the port area and the regional museum. Visit the Braun-Menendez Mansion, a national monument designed and built by the renowned French architect Antoine Beaulier in 1906. The mansion is a well preserved example of how affluent families lived at the turn of the century and contains all of its original furniture, decor and memorabilia.
Visit the Plaza de Armas, the main square surrounded by buildings that remind us of the glorious past of the city. Just across the street is the Union Club, the most exclusive club in town, sharing the same building as Hotel Jose Nogueira. Here, enjoy tea and snacks while listening to a classical music performance.
