Fly between Cozumel and mainland Mexico in a helicopter for the ultimate sightseeing experience and explore the Mayan ruins at Tulum after landing. Once you take off, you will soon look down on attractions such as the Punta Sur lighthouse near the island’s southern tip and the adjacent El Cielo sandbar. Not long after crossing Cozumel Channel, you will touch down in Tulum. Although not the largest or most elaborate archaeological site on the Yucatan peninsula, Tulum may be the most beautiful. The Maya built the walled city of Tulum in the 11th century to control maritime commerce, and the city-state’s excavated temples and buildings are spectacular. As you meander about, you will see El Castillo – a cliffside tower that probably served as a landmark for sailors – and the Temple of Frescoes, an observatory used to track the sun’s movements. The building was once painted red and you can still see remnants of that hue.

Take the wheel of an off-road vehicle and drive through the countryside, stopping along the way for tastings at a farm and to browse a museum with exhibits showcasing the indigenous Taino people. While riding through the lush landscape in a caravan of 4x4 vehicles, you will enjoy spectacular views of Isabel de Torres Mountain, which looms high above Puerto Plata. Upon arriving at the farm, you will learn how many local fruits and coffee are grown, harvested and processed. You will also sample many of these products, which will enhance your understanding of their allure. More scenic vistas await at La Jarana Taina, where you can learn about the history of Dominican Rum, an exquisite experience where you can tangibly see the historical process of rum and learn about its current production, tasting and what makes it special for being Dominican Rum, in addition to seeing how the juice of a sugar cane is processed and try the so ancient casaba, made in the same way as our ancestors, after this cultural encounter visit La Catalina, a stop to see how the mountains and the sea make their best presentation to end our tour back to the ranch.

Hike through a lush rainforest to the summit of Mount Alma and then relax on a beautiful beach nearby. The mountain rises more than 700 above Beef Island on the eastern tip of Tortola. As you ascend the forested slopes, you will catch glimpses of the stunning coastline and blue-hued Trellis Bay through the trees. Mount Alma is Tortola’s second highest peak and rewards hikers with spectacular views, especially from the exposed peak that offers the most sweeping panoramas. The trail is scenic but in a different way as it will offer a close-up look at the rainforest vegetation and perhaps birds. Long Bay Beach will likely be just as tranquil as it is typically uncrowded. It is the ideal setting to bask in the sun, beach-comb and swim in the crystal-clear waters. If you get hungry, you can snack Johnny cakes with cheese and lemonade.

Snorkel around a coral reef and a shipwreck teeming with marine life before relaxing on an idyllic beach where you can do most anything you please. After a briefing to ensure that you maximize the experience, you will cruise to a nearby sandbar known for its abundant cushion sea stars, a species of puffy starfish whose colors vary greatly. While snorkeling the surrounding coral reef, you will observe an even greater variety of sea life that may include neon-colored parrotfish, schools of French grunts and multi-colored angelfish known as rock beauties. You might also spot a sea turtle or two. The shipwreck of the 1899 steamboat Snyg is another site that attracts countless tropical fish and is easy to snorkel as the water there is so shallow that part of the boat is above the surface. You will have plenty to reflect upon while sunbathing at the beach and snacking under a palapa.

You will have the chance to test drive the buggy beforehand so you will feel comfortable whether at the wheel or as the passenger. Then, it’s off into the wilds, where you will drive down country lanes, past rivers and into isolated areas that most visitors never see. If it has rained recently, the ride will be even more fun because your caravan of vehicles can zip through long stretches of muddy dirt roads. OVERVIEW

Snorkel with sea turtles in their natural habitat and swim in the aquamarine waters of a natural sinkhole that formed centuries ago. Green sea turtles are the most prevalent species of turtle in Akumal Bay, a sanctuary of sorts where you will enjoy an up-close underwater view of these magnificent creatures as they gracefully swim by and feed on seagrass along the sandy bottom. Greens are the largest of all hard-shelled sea turtles and typically weigh up to 350 pounds. The turtles are brownish not green as their name comes from the color of the fat beneath their shells. You will also have the opportunity to swim in the Mariposa Cenote, an inland sinkhole created when the limestone on the surface collapsed, exposing the groundwater underneath. The ancient Maya used cenotes as water sources but also believed them to be entrances to the underworld. As such, the pools were considered sacred.

Take the helm of your own Rigid Inflatable Boat or RIB and zip through the turquoise waters off the northern coast of Tortola to Guana Island. After a briefing to ensure that you maximize the experience, you will follow the guide in a two-person RIB. You can be the captain or ride along as the passenger. The choice is yours. Either way, it will be exhilarating as you race through the sea caravan-style toward Guana Island, most of which is a natural reserve. Along the way, you might pause for the guide to point out and describe the highlights of other islands. You will disembark on White Bay, the longest stretch of sand on privately owned Guana Island, which is supposedly named for a promontory that resembles an iguana’s head.
