The winding route will become a bit more rugged as you approach Boatswain’s Bay, where phosphate mining once flourished. Other points of interest include the Cobalt Coast, which was named for the sea’s brilliant blue color, and Hell, an infernal-looking expanse of jagged black limestone that lies inland. You will also stop to sample a selection of cakes infused with locally distilled rum before traveling on to Seven Mile Beach, a crescent-shaped stretch of sand on the island’s west coast. You might lie back in a lounge chair and bask in the sun, stroll along the lengthy shoreline and take a refreshing swim in the sea.

After seeing how they are harvested, you may be surprised by their versatility. Coconuts are farmed for their mineral-rich meat, the nutritious water inside and even their outer fibers or coir, which are spun into fishing nets and ropes. It is a fascinating process as is the one that turns raw cacao beans into delicious chocolate. Besides watching the production step by step at the plantation, you will sample some of the artisanal chocolates made there. Afterwards, you will enjoy free time to browse a popular straw market that carries an array of merchandise, most of them handmade from natural materials.

Race through the otherworldly terrain near an abandoned bauxite deposit on your own ATV and then relax at an exclusive beach club. One of the key ingredients in aluminum, bauxite has been mined in the Pedernales region for years. As you will discover at the former Las Mercedes mine, the surrounding landscape features huge ochre-colored craters, boulder-strewn hills and scrubby green vegetation – the ideal setting for an exhilarating ATV ride. Expect dusty trails and nonstop thrills as you follow the guide through the rugged terrain, which resembles a lunar landscape. The setting for the remainder of the excursion is the polar opposite, as you will spend hours relaxing on Baby Beach, a beautiful stretch of sand named for its diminutive size. Even so, it is big on amenities. Feel free to take a refreshing dip in the ocean and swimming pool, paddle off in a kayak and enjoy the open bar.

See the natural beauty that abounds in the island’s more remote regions by riding an ATV through a tropical rainforest and by cruising along the mangrove-lined shores of southern Roatan. The adventure will begins at Big Bight where you will hop on an ATV and race off caravan-style, following the guide into the surrounding wilderness. If it has been raining recently, the natural trails will have potholes and mud will be flying, which will make the driving even more fun. After a brief stop, you will transfer to the marina and sail through the mangrove forests line the banks most everywhere. Besides being environmentally beneficial, mangroves provide shelter for a myriad of animals, especially water birds such as green herons and roseate spoonbills.

Soar through a tropical forest on two exhilarating zip-lines and enjoy a meandering walk through the jungle on a nature trail with towering suspension bridges.

After departing from the pier, you will take a leisurely drive through the emerald-green countryside to the area’s only extreme adventure park. Upon arriving, you will learn how to maximize your experience during a brief orientation.

You can then participate in three different activities, each thrilling in its own way. You may begin by strolling through the jungle canopy, much of it along suspension bridges and wooden boardwalks. From this vantage point high above the jungle floor, you can expect to see splashes of colorful flowers clinging to vine-draped trees, chirping tropical birds flitting through the air, and creatures such as iguanas and lizards perched on the branches.

A more adrenaline-pumping adventure awaits you on the zip line, which involves sitting in a harness and darting through the treetops from platform to platform. It will be absolutely exhilarating as you pass over trees and through pathways cut out of the dense foliage at heart-pounding speeds. You will be treated to a literal bird’s-eye view of the gorgeous tropical landscape below so don’t blink because it will go by fast.

For the ultimate thrill, try the Zuperman Zip. It is the area’s only forward-facing zip line with a special harness that allows you to fly through the air headfirst like Superman. Afterwards, you will return to the pier in Roatan.

Snorkel the turquoise waters of Curacao and relax however you please on this beautiful stretch of sand. You will likely see an ever-changing parade of marine life, which is just one of the reasons that this is one of Curaçao’s most popular snorkeling sites. You may spot brightly colored queen triggerfish, red-striped squirrelfish and brilliant blue tangs. Spiny lobsters are often seen hiding among the coral reefs and on occasion hawksbill turtles swim by. The biodiversity is spectacular with marine species ranging from large white-spotted eagle rays to the teeniest of sea horses. It will be easy to find a comfortable depth for snorkeling because the sea floor slopes gently from the beach. Observe the wonders underwater while cruising off the village of French Cay in an air-conditioned semi-submersible. The vessel offers the visibility of a glass-bottom boat but with more comforts. This is an off-road island adventure to Aruba’s most exotic sites. Travel in a Landrover caravan style to the Casibari Rock Formation, the Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins, the ocean-carved Natural Bridge Ruins, the picturesque Alto Vista chapel and the California Lighthouse, located on the islands most North Western tip. Your adventure ends with a splash in the crystal blue waters of the famous Arashi Beach.

Snorkel two reefs that are teeming with marine life and see the wreck of a freighter that has become an artificial reef. A sleek catamaran will bring you to the snorkeling sites, which are both located just off Buck Island, a naturally beautiful oasis that is a national wildlife refuge. Turtle Cove is known for its abundant sea turtles, the most common being green and hawksbill turtles. It’s easy to differentiate between the species, as green sea turtles weigh as much as 500 pounds and are typically twice the size of hawksbills. Countless tropical fish inhabit Turtle Cove and Shipwreck Cove, the second snorkeling venue, which is named for the ship that was scuttled there in 1979. A few years later, Hurricane Hugo broke the ship into three pieces and pushed it into shallower water. While snorkeling in the coves, you can expect to see snapper, blue tangs and parrotfish of every imaginable neon color.

You will be greeted with a welcoming cocktail and then tour the distillery to discover the steps that make Appleton Estate rum so special. You can expect to taste the sweet juice squeezed right from the sugar cane and see how the technology has changed over the centuries. The aging process is particularly intriguing as it imparts each type of rum with unique characteristics. A sampling will reveal even more, as you may sip rums aged anywhere between 8 and 21 years. Board your private transportation for a journey through Road Town. Drive along Ridge Road with amazing views over the north coast of the island. After a brief photo stop to view the islands of Guana, Great Camanoe and Anegada, you’ll drive westward to the Original Virgin Canopy Tour base camp. After a quick restroom break, the friendly staff will outfit you with your gear. Following a brief orientation and safety talk, you’ll arrive at the take-off point of the tour. The tour has been expertly designed for adventurers of all ages (from 5 to 95) and every stop along the way provides you with an amazing "I can't believe I just did that" photo opportunity that you will want to share with friends and loved ones.

The tour including the outfitting and safety talk and the 7 traverse and other challenge components, will take approximately 1 to 1 1/4 hours, depending on group size and other factors. One element of the tour includes a 1 1/2 story climb (21 steps) up an inclined ladder – but don’t worry, you are attached all the way. Following the tour you can enjoy some refreshments or snacks (not included in the price), shop for souvenirs or just relax and take in the wonderful view from the patio before you board the bus. Stops will be made for photo opportunities on your drive back to the cruise ship terminal.
