Explore volcanic highlights including the historic 2018 eruption sites on this small-group adventure to the Puna District.

Visit Kapoho, inundated in 1959, 1960, and completely overrun by lava in 2018. Step out onto the still-steaming black lava. Visit both MacKenzie State Park and Isaac Hale State Park which were both miraculously spared, but surrounded by lava.

Enjoy a Hawaiian-style BBQ lunch at Star of the Sea Painted Church in Kalapana which was moved three times in 1990 to avoid approaching lava. Check out Lava Tree State Park and the fascinating tree molds before heading to Hilo for some swimming and snorkeling in protected Hilo Bay. Grab some souvenirs in the gift shop before heading back to the ship.

Note: There are opportunities to purchase local products and souvenirs along the way. Note: Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes, and bring a swimsuit and towel. Tour capacity is limited, molten lava will not be seen, and order of itinerary may change. Participants must be at least 4 years of age.
