After departing from the pier by van, you will settle in for a scenic drive into the countryside, a verdant landscape of dense jungle, charming villages and archaeological treasures. Mayans lived in this part of the Yucatan for thousands of years, and their influence can still be felt.

Arriving at the biking station, you will soon experience your first cenote. These natural wonders are actually sinkholes formed centuries ago when limestone on the surface collapsed, exposing the underground rivers beneath. These cenotes were considered sacred by the Mayans and before you enter, a Mayan shaman will conduct a purification ceremony, asking the gods for their blessing to enjoy this natural phenomenon. The ceremony usually involves the burning of incense, as the shaman chants.

Afterwards, you are invited to take a refreshing swim or snorkel in the crystal-clear waters, or simply sit back and relax in this idyllic setting. Whatever your preference, it’s easy to see why cenotes have become such popular spots.

From here, you will bike to a second cenote. Pedaling through the jungle is a wonderfully carefree experience, as you will be surrounded by nature. Following your second cenote experience, you will ride back to the station where you will have time to change clothes before driving to a nearby restaurant for a traditional Mexican lunch. You will then have the option of either returning straight to the pier or stopping in town to shop for handicrafts and casual clothing, making your own way back to the ship.
