Behold an exquisite Buddhist temple complex and a king’s tomb in Gyeongju before returning to Busan to tour a serene park and Korea’s largest seafood market.

After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a scenic drive north of approximately 90-minutes, to the city of Gyeongju. Known as the Museum without Walls, it was once the capital of the Silla Kingdom and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its remarkable collection of Korean Buddhist architecture.

The Bulguksa Temple is a prime example. The building was completed in 774, but invaders burned most of it to the ground in 1592. While the foundations and pagodas are original, the other buildings are reconstructions. Be sure to notice the Silla-style bridges, Buddha statues and 33 steps leading to the complex, which represent the 33 steps to enlightenment.

A buffet lunch follows, accompanied by a folkloric performance. After lunch, you will travel to Tumuli Park, a repository for royal tombs. Upon entering the Flying Horse Tomb, you will behold artifacts such as gold crowns and the final resting place of a 6th-century Silla king.

Returning to Busan, you will stop at Yongdusan, a mountaintop park that offers outstanding views of the city. Yongdusan means “dragon’s head mountain,” a reference to the park’s shape. Most of the monuments here are dedicated to Korean war heroes.

Then for an authentic slice of Korean life, you will visit Jagalchi Fish Market, Korea's largest seafood market. A favorite of locals, the fish market offers a wonderful glimpse into daily life and the bounty of the sea, as everything from sea squirts to sun-dried squid are displayed. After visiting, you will return to the pier.
