    Mount Teide With Cable Car

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands

    Duration 5.5 hours

Enjoy the amazing scenery of Teide National Park and ride a cable car up Mount Teide, the world’s third highest volcano and a sacred site for Tenerife’s aboriginal people.

After departing from the pier, you will drive inland along an immensely picturesque, circuitous route and on into Teide National Park. The largest of the Canary Island national parks, Teide features a colossal stratovolcano that contains Mount Teide, the highest peak on Spanish soil. Its stunning geological formations are so important to understanding how volcanic islands are created that the park has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The now dormant volcano last erupted in 1798. It also erupted in 1492, supposedly as Christopher Columbus was sailing past on his voyage of discovery. Your approach to Mount Teide will be through a volcanic crater 30 miles in circumference.

The closer you come to Mount Teide, the more surreal and lunar the landscape will appear. The terrain is a jumble of bizarre natural rock formations, petrified lava rivers and endemic vegetation. One of the most spectacular plants is the red bugloss, a species with 6-foot, cone-shaped stems covered in pinkish-purple blossoms.

More phenomenal sights await you while ascending Mount Teide via cable car. From this unique perspective, you will enjoy sweeping views of the volcanic landscape and the ancient crater rimmed with red, brown and yellow walls. Upon reaching the summit, you may explore further during free time before retracing your route back to the pier in Tenerife.

    Need to Know:

Note: Warm jacket recommended as the temperatures can be cooler at the top of the peak. From October to April the temperatures can reach below freezing. It is forbidden to remove any stones or plants from the National Park. This excursion will travel up some mountain roads to approximately 7,000 feet above sea level and eventually to 11,600 feet with the cable car. This tour is not recommended to guests who suffer from heart problems or have previously undergone heart surgery, pregnant women, respiratory problems including asthma or infants under the age of 1 year. Comfortable, flat, walking shoes are recommended. This tour is subject to weather conditions and may be cancelled at short notice. Due to its popularity, queuing may be experienced at the cable car.

Breathtaking Beauty of the Fundy Trail

Saint John, Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick

    Duration 7 hours

Admire the natural beauty surrounding the Bay of Fundy by visiting a coastal park full of hiking trails, lookouts and historical buildings from the years when this area was logged.

You might meander the hiking paths, cross the suspension footbridge that spans the crystal-clear Salmon River, and explore the replica sawmill. Be sure to see Flower Pot Rock, a tall thin rock tower that the pounding sea has shaped over time.

The bay's rising tides have also created sea caves in the red sandstone, which you will see on the return to St. Martins. Granada, The Soul of Andalusia

    Granada (Malaga), Spain

    Duration 9 hours

Discover the charms of Granada, the architecturally stunning capital of the Andalusia region, by exploring a magnificent palace, the Royal Chapel and the city’s oldest quarter.

After departing from the pier, you will settle in for scenic drive inland to Granada, a city likely named for the Spanish word for pomegranate, a fruit so abundant it is depicted on Granada's coat of arms. Or Granada may have derived from its Moorish name, as the city was the Moors' last stronghold before falling to Spain's Catholic monarchs in 1492.

Granada features a wealth of extraordinary architecture such as your first stop, the Carlos V Palace within the Alhambra complex. Construction on the palace began in the early 16th century, following a Renaissance ground plan with a circular courtyard within a square building-the only one of its kind in Spain. Amazingly, a monarch has never lived in the palace, nor did it even have a roof until 1957.

Walking a bit farther, you will soon arrive in the labyrinthine streets of the Albayzin quarter (down part of the quarter), the city's oldest section. UNESCO has deemed it a World Heritage site for its harmonious blend of Moorish and Andalusian architecture.

Nearby, you will find the glorious Royal Chapel, the final resting place of Spanish monarchs such as Queen Isabella and Kind Ferdinand. Be sure to see the chapel's mausoleum, spectacular altarpieces and ornate grilles before enjoying free time and perhaps lunch on your own in the surrounding historical area.

Afterwards, you will drive back to Malaga.

    Need to Know:

Note: Due to traffic conditions, the tour duration may vary from 8-9 hours. This tour includes approximately 2½ hours of walking, some of it over cobblestone surfaces plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion during free time. Highlights of Rhodes

    Rhodes, Greece

    Duration 4 hrs

The old port of Mandraki, where this tour begins, is believed to be the site of the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Historic sites abound in Rhodes, as you will soon discover after enjoying a panoramic view of the city and Rhodes Bay from atop Monte Smith.

Visit the fully restored 14th-century Grand Masters Palace, which contains beautiful alabaster windows, French and Venetian furniture, and floor mosaics with scenes from Greek mythology. It served as a fortress in times of war, and a residence for the Grand Master and a meeting place for senior knights during times of peace. As you continue down the Avenue of the Knights, where the knights lived, the cobblestoned street seems to exude a noble and somewhat forbidden aura, as its lofty buildings stretch in an unbroken wall of honey-coloured stone, punctuated by huge doorways and arched windows. At the conclusion of this tour, you can either return to ship, or remain in the old town to explore further on your own.
