The exquisite beauty and undersea dwellers of Bora Bora's lagoon are for you to discover during this shark and stingray snorkeling safari aboard a covered lagoon cruiser.

Your boat heads toward the ancient crater rim of Motu Tapu, dropping anchor on a shallow sandbank. You'll have the opportunity to discover first-hand the elegant, yet harmless stingrays. Watch in amazement as your guide hand feeds the stingrays while they glide effortlessly around you. If you are willing, your guide will even help you get close enough to touch them. There is also a good chance you’ll see some harmless black tip sharks in the lagoon as well, so keep an eye out for them.

You will also stop to explore the pristine coral gardens by the barrier reef. After a safety briefing and snorkeling instructions, you’ll enter the water and enjoy the colorful marine life that abounds.

Cruise to the island of Tahaa to visit a vanilla farm and then visit a small islet nearby to comb the beaches, snorkel and enjoy a typical Polynesian picnic lunch.

After departing from the pier in a boat, you will soon enter the protected turquoise lagoon that encircles Raiatea, an island whose name translates to faraway heaven. Upon arriving at the nearby island of Tahaa, it’s a short walk to reach the vanilla plantation. Seventy percent of the vanilla grown in French Polynesia is from Tahaa and it makes for a wonderfully fragrant setting. While strolling about, you can expect to see and smell aromatic vanilla pods curing in the sun. You may also walk among the rows of climbing orchids that produce the pods and learn how they are hand-pollinated. You will also have time to shop for vanilla-infused products.

Re-boarding your boat, it’s a short cruise to one of the lagoon’s gorgeous reef islets, known as motus. Few places are so relaxing, serene and ideal for beachcombing. An island style lunch will be served during your time on the motu, and the remainder of your stay will be free to do as you please. You might sunbathe or relax in the shade, doing nothing more ambitious than watching the waves gently lap at the shore. Or you may enjoy a refreshing swim and a bit of snorkeling (mask and snorkel provided).

Enjoy an extended visit to Kilohana Plantation, with a ride on a train, dinner at the manor house, and a luau show of hula, fire dances and tales told in story and song. Begin your tour of Kilohana Plantation aboard one of the elegant, mahogany passenger cars of an authentic, narrow gauge railway. You’ll be entertained by fun loving conductors, and learn about plantation history and commercial farming on Kauai today, while traveling through fields of sugar cane, pineapple, banana, papaya, coffee, tropical flowers and hardwood trees.

Step back into the golden age of sugar at Kilohana’s perfectly restored manor house, 22 North. Richly crafted from fine woods with Art Deco details, it served as a family homestead and site for elaborate social gatherings. You’ll dine here on Kauai grown meats, fish and produce, including fruits and vegetables from Kilohana’s orchard and agricultural park.

After dinner, you’ll be escorted to the Kalamaku luau show. While torches blaze, graceful hulas and energetic fire dances will entertain you, and the ancient sea voyages that brought the original Hawaiians to these islands from Polynesia will be brought to life in story and song.

Take an enlightening hike around the ancient volcanic caldera in the center of the Opunohu Valley while marveling at the natural beauty and extraordinary vistas. The valley was densely populated before Europeans arrived in the 19th century and numerous structures that are centuries older remain, including more than 100 stone-platform temples known as maraes. They were of great religious and social importance and are now being restored, as the jungle once completely covered them. Despite the valley’s enormous archaeological value, its magnificent scenery still takes center stage. As you hike through the verdant valley, you can expect to see plantations of tropical fruits such lemons, papayas, bananas and pineapples. You will also have wonderful views of the oddly shaped, heavily vegetated mountains that soar above the valley floor. The highest is Mount Tohiea, which rises nearly 4,000 feet high.

    • Hike around the caldera of an ancient volcano in the verdant Opunohu Valley.

    • Gain an understanding of the archaeological importance of the valley during the hike.
