Hike through the rainforest in Huleia National Wildlife Refuge to two spectacular waterfalls, where you may swim in the refreshing pools below. The refuge is closed to the public to protect the endangered species, but you will enjoy special access to this natural wonderland. As you follow a descending trail, the guide will describe the lush flora, which may include wild coffee, lobster claw heliconia and hau trees, the branches of which Hawaiians once used to make outrigger floats. Named for its stand of graceful bamboo, Bamboo Falls is the smaller of the cascades, while Papakolea Falls plummets down more than 60 feet. Both are breathtaking. Feel free to swim, stand under the waterfalls for a natural massage or simply relax on the rocky shore and behold nature’s beauty. Later, you will gaze out over Menehune Fish Pond, home to dozens of avian species such as the nēnē, Hawaii’s state bird.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Behold two little-known waterfalls in Huleia National Wildlife Refuge.
    • Swim in the pools below the cascades or simply enjoy the beautiful peaceful settings.
    • Learn about the surrounding flora and fauna, much of it indigenous and endangered.
    • Admire nearby natural areas such as the Menehune Fish Pond.

    HELPFUL HINTS

    Photographic Tour Of Antigua

    St. John's, Antigua

    Duration 4 hrs

Explore Antigua’s colorful past and present on a guided tour that travels from the island’s quaint northern capital, St John. more...

An amazing tour with 4 stops with a professional photographer. Explore Antigua’s colorful past and present on a guided tour that travels from the island’s quaint northern capital, St John. Drive through the heart of the island, Antigua’s tropical countryside, to see the everyday picturesque village life. See rolling hills to include stops Fort James, twin-sugar mills at Betty’s Hope Sugar Plantation, Devil’s Bridge and the white sand beach at Long Bay.

Board your air-conditioned transportation with your professional photographer, who will assist you on how to use and get the best from their camera, whether it be a compact or DSLR camera. Various techniques will be taught while having the opportunity to visit and take photographs at some of Antigua’s historic landmarks.

First stop is a 10 minute drive to Fort James, built in 1739. The Fort offers an opportunity to step back in time and enjoy fabulous views of St John’s Harbour and photographic opportunities of the harbor, your ship and the lovely Antiguan coastline.

Then it’s off to Betty's Hope Sugar Plantation which was the first large sugar plantation on Antigua, built in 1674. It’s success led to the island's rapid development of large-scale sugar production. The site's importance in Antiguan history has prompted the government to begin developing it as an open air museum. The two restored sugar mill examples at Betty's Hope provide a dramatic sense of the way these mills must have dominated the island during the hundreds of years that sugar production was the dominant industry. There are also 4 locomotives used to transport the sugar cane across Antigua.

Your tour continues to Devil’s Bridge where you will view the natural bridge at the head of Indian Creek with blow-holes and spouting surf. Legend says that if you throw two eggs into the water to boil, the devil (who is said to be down there) would keep one and return the other!

Next is a stop at Long Bay Beach where you can take a stroll along the beach and experience one of Antigua’s 365 beaches! Your waiting bus then takes you through Antigua’s tropical countryside, everyday picturesque village life and calm, rolling hills en route back north through Antiguan villages to St John’s and your awaiting ship.

    OVERVIEW

Experience the consistent and stunning Alaskan views from both land and water on your journey to the awe-inspiring Mendenhall Glacier. Mendenhall Lake is a treasure trove of natural beauty that rests in front of the glacier. Your guide will outfit you with gear, orient you to your canoe and provide a safety briefing before you paddle toward the Mendenhall Glacier. Glide between the towering cliffs and catch a glimpse of some of Alaska's amazing wildlife. Look for white, small, and slender Arctic Tern seabird nest near the lake. Mountain goats appear high in the mountains along the rocky outcroppings. Watch as billies, nannies and kids make their way to the Rock Peninsula jutting out into the lake. Black bears are also seen occasionally in the brush. As you paddle across Mendenhall Lake, you'll pass floating blue-hued icebergs and the powerful Nugget Falls waterfall cascading down the mountainside. When you reach land, trade your paddling gear for backpacks and trekking poles and absorb the beauty of the beautiful thirteen-mile long river of ice. After landing the canoe at the glacier beach, trade out the paddles for trekking poles and begin the hike over the rocky terrain carved out by the glacier. You will get an up-close and intimate perspective of the glacier, while learning about its recession, glacier dynamics, and the breathtaking ice features that unfold from the edge. The Mendenhall Glacier is constantly changing and offers a unique experience each day.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Paddle past icebergs, waterfalls and arctic tern nesting cliffs.
    • Step out of the canoe and hike over the rock terrain carved out by the glacier.
    • Get an up close and intimate perspective of the glacier from the edge, all while learning about the recession of the glacier and the wilderness that surrounds it.
