You’ll have an opportunity to visit some of Singapore’s lesser known highlights on this extended half day tour for guests debarking the ship.
A short drive away from the pier is the Tiong Bahru Wet Market where locals purchase some of the freshest products for their home cooking. During your stop here, you’ll witness both the dry and wet areas of the market as you stroll through the displays. The wet areas that come from cleaning vegetables and fish with water are what give the market its name. Next, you’ll visit the 1957 unveiled Kranji War Memorial, the last resting place for many of the Allied soldiers and a memorial to the lives lost during World War II.
Enjoy a leisurely traditional Chinese lunch before resuming your tour with a visit to Bright Hill Temple. The temple is a famous Chinese ancestral place of worship and features beautiful gardens and many halls. From here, you will travel to the area of Changi. Driving past the Johore Battery, you’ll have an opportunity to view a replica of the 15-inch monster gun, the largest to be installed outside Britain during World War II. You’ll also stop at the Changi Chapel and Museum, which focuses on the memories and lives of the POWs and civilian internees who survived the Japanese occupation. The Changi Chapel is a symbolic replica of the chapel at the infamous Changi Prison, the same one noted in James Calvell's book – ‘King Rat’.
At the conclusion of your tour, you will either be dropped at the airport, a Norwegian Cruise Line program hotel, or a central location in Singapore.
