Experience life on a traditional New Zealand sheep farm, where six generations of the Johns family have their 900-acre property. A short ride brings you Paua Bay Farm, nestled among extensive gardens. The charming farmhouse is the centerpiece of this expansive working farm. As many as 4,500 sheep, cattle and deer roam the rural acreage.
You'll be greeted by Murray Johns, who will share stories of the family's history and about farming in New Zealand. Then, the eager sheep dogs take center stage and demonstrate their talents for herding sheep, while following their master's commands. If you'd like, you can participate in separating the sheep, before moving to the woolshed, where Murray will elaborate on the life of a sheep shearer.
In addition to watching farming activities, you'll also have time to stroll the garden of native plants and relax over tea and homemade scones.
