Various ethnic groups of Kamchatka comprise the hearty people here: the Koryak, the Even, the Chukchi and the Itelmen. Today, you will have a unique opportunity to interact with a traditional Koryak community and learn about its culture, games, dances and traditional food in this remote part of Russia.
From the pier, the Koryak village is about an hour’s drive aboard a motor coach. On arrival, you’ll see a village that has been reconstructed according to ancient Koryak customs and traditions. View their summer and winter dwellings, taste the Koryak food, and enjoy their folk dance presentations, games and songs. The hosts of the village will show you the process of making flat cakes in one of the dwellings (called yaranga), which were usually eaten by indigenous people of Kamchatka. A comfortable dwelling will warm you up with its home fire and the taste of Koryak herb tea will be unforgettable.
