Duration 2 hrs
Swim with stingrays in the shallow crystal-clear waters off Gibbs Cay and then relax on one of the lengthiest beaches on Grand Turk. A scenic cruise on a sleek, 45-foot catamaran will bring you to the island, which is little more than a speck in the sea. Although the cay is nicknamed Stingray City, conch are also plentiful. After demonstrating how this delicacy is prepared, the guides will offer you samples to taste. You will then have the opportunity to swim with the abundant stingrays that frequent these waters. Stingrays don’t have a bone in their bodies, but rather flexible cartilage that allows them to gracefully swim by flapping their sides like wings. Feel free to touch them as stingrays are remarkably docile. Following the encounter, you will spend free time on a nearby beach, where you can stretch out on a lounge chair and take a refreshing swim in the sea.

Sail aboard a sleek catamaran to a collection of sandbars just offshore for an exhilarating up-close experience with southern stingrays. Once you settle in on the 60-foot catamaran Cockatoo, the crew will raise the sails for a delightful cruise to Stingray City. The water there is shallow with plenty of sandbars, so you can make the most of your stingray interaction. Feel free to wade out as far as you’re comfortable, hand-feed the stingrays, stroke their sandpaper-like skin or just stand by and watch them from a distance. Although stingrays may look somewhat frightening, the reality is just the opposite. They are naturally shy and docile. The ones at Stingray City are so accustomed to people that they will typically approach as soon as you enter the water. You can expect your experience to be an unforgettable adventure that you can recount over lunch at a beach bar and grille overlooking the North Sound.

Interact with southern stingrays on a shallow sandbar and observe an abundance of other marine life by snorkeling a barrier reef off Grand Cayman. A scenic cruise along beautiful Seven Mile Beach will bring you to Stingray City, a collection of sandbars teeming with stingrays. These graceful creatures may look somewhat ominous, but they are docile and shy, often burying most of their flat bodies in the sand. While swimming with the stingrays, you might feed them, run your hands over their sandpaper-like skin or simply allow them to brush by. The stingrays that inhabit this particular sandbar are quite friendly and accustomed to sharing the water with people. After cruising to a nearby reef, you will see many of the other marine creatures that live in the crystal-clear waters. Among the most colorful are queen parrotfish, red-and-white striped squirrelfish and silvery yellow French grunts, whose name refers to the noise they make by grinding their teeth.

Experience the graceful beauty of the southern stingray, one of Grand Cayman’s most widely misunderstood marine creatures, while snorkeling in their natural habitat. It won’t take long to reach Stingray City, a collection of shallow sandbars teeming with stingrays. You will have the opportunity to interact with these magnificent creatures according to your comfort level. You may feed them, stroke their sandpaper-like skin or simply watch the stingrays glide along by flapping their sides like wings. The choice is entirely up to you. Although some people may be apprehensive about being in the water with stingrays, these creatures are actually shy and docile. Many of the same ones frequent the crystal-clear waters at Stingray City and have even been named after famous “Rays,” such as Ray Charles. Southern stingrays are fascinating creatures with flat, diamond-shaped bodies. They use electro-receptors and their heightened sense of smell to locate prey buried in the ocean floor.
