Kayak across a mountain lake to view Mendenhall Glacier, a massive body of ancient ice that is part of the Juneau Icefield, a remnant of the last ice age. Following an immensely picturesque drive to pristine Mendenhall Lake, you will be outfitted with all the necessary gear and then ease into a two-person kayak. You will find that the kayak will be remarkably easy to navigate, which makes the adventure all the more enjoyable. Your destination will be Mendenhall Glacier. While you will remain a safe distance away, you will certainly be close enough to behold its staggering beauty. Kayaking past Nugget Falls is another highlight, as it cascades into the lake right next to the glacier. Keep an eye out for wildlife, as arctic terns are often spotted nesting along the shore. You might also see black bears and goats up in the hills among the Sitka spruce trees. Afterwards, head to the Gold Creek Salmon Bake to refuel with an all-you-can-eat feast. OVERVIEW

Cruise into the pristine waters off Auke Bay in a yacht that combines pure luxury with the chance to spot humpback whales. It will be a first-class experience as this yacht is reserved for a maximum of only eight guests. As you cruise along – enjoying the all-inclusive drinks and local specialties on the charcuterie board – be sure to scan the shoreline for harbor seals and Stellar sea lions, species that use the land as haul-out sites where they can rest on the rocks and interact with each other. If you spot humpback whales feeding in the nutrient-rich waters, it will make for even more spectacular memories. The most vocal of all whales, humpbacks make a variety of sounds, which they string together to make songs that last as long as 30 minutes. A naturalist will accompany you on the yacht to answer any questions you may have about humpbacks and the other marine animals.

Try your luck fishing for halibut, a flatfish that gets massive and feeds voraciously in the summer. You will cruise to the fishing grounds from Auke Bay with no more than five other guests, which will ensure that the crew can provide exceptional personal attention to increase your chances of catching one of these halibut. Once arriving to the back drifting or anchoring location, you will jig with a vertical rigging to reach the bottom of the ocean floor where halibut live. Imagine what a thrill it would be to reel in one of these amazing fish. If you catch one, you will notice that it has a white-colored bottom and a darker top, which acts as a natural camouflage that mimics the hues of the ocean floor and water.

Your journey begins with a narrated tour of downtown Juneau, highlighting the city’s landmarks and rich cultural past as you head towards the Mendenhall Valley. Your first stop is the historic Brotherhood Bridge, where you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the valley and, weather permitting, the Mendenhall Glacier off in the distance. This bridge holds significant cultural and historical importance, symbolizing the bridging of the gap between Native and Non-Native communities and overcoming racial tensions. Adorned with ten bronze medallions featuring the Alaska Native Brotherhood (ANB) crest, sculpted by Roy Peratrovich Jr. in honor of the ANB’s 50th anniversary, the bridge depicts the two great Tlingit moieties—Eagle and Raven—emphasizing the ANB’s foundational role in their shared heritage. Afterward your drive takes you to Juneau's Macaulay Salmon Hatchery and Visitor Center. There you will learn the value of ocean ranching to Juneau's commercial and sport fishing industries and the hatchery's role in keeping the area salmon population at sustainable levels.
