Meander through the cobblestone, oak-shaded streets of Charleston, admiring its period architecture before stopping at various shops and a restaurant to sample delicacies that reflect the local cuisine. The tour commences with a walk through the historical walled area of the city, as the guide describes the Low Country cuisine that has become synonymous with Charleston. You will learn how Southern favorites such as sweet potato, okra and collard greens were introduced and how the early immigrants influenced the cuisine. Today, Charleston boasts more than 700 restaurants, many of them embracing the farm-to-table philosophy by sourcing ingredients locally. Your tastings will include signature Southern dishes, olive oils and vinegars, and delectable French pastries, providing you with a wonderful overview of Charleston’s extraordinary cuisine.
