Since the 90’s Leon University’s faculty have been involved in several projects, including opening the first botanical garden in Central America, whose mission is to protect the vegetation of the tropical dry forest ecosystem.
This 12 hectare botanical garden seeks to safeguard some of its most representative species. Currently 1,200 plant species and 80 species of birds have been identified. As you stroll along the 2.5 miles trail, you’ll see the different groups of plants, trees and vegetation.
Have your camera ready for the beautiful butterflies at the farm and the amazing collection of succulents. You’ll have some have some free time here to explore on your own or visit the garden’s nursery. You’ll also visit Leon’s central park where the cathedral and market is located, before returning to your ship.
