After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a spectacular driving tour through some of Norway’s most stunningly beautiful scenery. The landscape is picture-perfect everywhere, as the road winds through fertile farmland and forested mountains dotted with lakes.

You will first pause for photos at nearby Flydal, an elevated viewpoint that offers a sweeping look at the gorgeous fjord below and your cruise ship. You will continue to ascend the circuitous road until reaching the summit of Dalsnibba, which soars nearly 5,000 feet above sea level. Be sure to look for wild reindeer roaming about.

Then, it’s on to Briksdal Mountain Lodge, where you will hike along a river toward the foot of Briksdal Glacier, an ancient arm of another glacier. Highlights of the pristine terrain include roaring waterfalls, a crystal-clear lake speckled with ice floes and a rocky moraine. Following the hike, you will return to the lodge for a hearty Norwegian lunch and a bit of free time to relax and admire the scenery.

Continuing on, more panoramic views await you on the drive to Hellesylt. In particular, there is Olden Lake, which nestles in the bottom of a steep-ridged valley, and Homindal Lake, a royal-blue stretch of water that is simply breathtaking. Finally, you will reach the old Viking port of Hellesylt, where you will re-board your awaiting ship.

Need to Know:

Note: Participants must be able to walk for approximately 90 minutes on country roads, walking paths, grass and uneven surfaces. The road is uneven and will be bumpy in places. The driving portion of this tour includes hairpin turns and those who suffer from motion sickness should take necessary precautions prior to commencing the tour. The 1.9 mile/3 km walk to the glacier is rather steep so good walking shoes are a must. This tour is not recommended for guests with any physical limitations. As this is a strenuous walk, we advise you to dress in layers, but not too warm. There are optional motorized vehicles available for participants to hire individually to transport them closer to the glacier. However, there will still be an approximately 10-minute walk from where these vehicles stop to the glacier itself. Sun cap; sunglasses; and a bottle of water from the ship are recommended.
