This experience is the perfect opportunity to get up-close with stingrays right from the beach as you enjoy a private island getaway. The Southern Stingray can grow up to four feet in diameter and Balmoral Island is the only location in Nassau where you can interact with this species of ray.
Upon arrival on the island, you will be greeted by the staff, given a short orientation, and then break into smaller groups for your stingray encounter. After filling out the required paperwork and waiver, your guide will give you an orientation on the stingrays and what to expect. You will then walk down to the water and wade out to a waist-deep depth where you will have an up-close meeting with a ray.
For approximately the next 30 minutes, your trainer will introduce you to the ray, let you pet it, feed it and even hold it for a photo that can be purchased later. At the end of your encounter, you will have the option to rent snorkel gear and snorkel in the stingray encounter area to further experience the rays in their natural habitat.
The rest of the day is then yours to enjoy by doing as much or as little as you please. On the sugar white beach, you can lounge on your included lounge chair or enjoy the refreshing azure blue Bahamian water. You’ll have unlimited complimentary use of noodles, and inner-tubes are available as well. Additional non-motorized water activities including snorkel gear and kayaks are available for rent. There is also a heated fresh water pool nearby. For added luxury, there are a limited number of poolside cabanas for rent in four hour increments, on a first come basis.
When it’s time to quench your thirst, there are several different bars on the island, each with its own mood, including a frozen tropical drink bar where frozen margaritas, daiquiris and Pina coladas await. For food options, The Market offers something for everyone, from small snacks to complete meals of fresh sandwiches, salads and wraps. The Market even features the only Starbucks® on a private island.
For your convenience, restrooms are located around the island as well as fresh water showers and foot baths. Umbrellas are available on the beach on a first-come basis and there is plenty of shade to be found on one of the patios or bars.
