Paddle an inflatable raft across a glacial lake toward Briksdal Glacier for a close-up view of this ancient ice flow, which is nearly a quarter mile deep at its thickest part.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a wonderfully scenic drive through the fertile Olden Valley, at times following the shore of beautiful Lake Olden. Along the way, you will pass several small farms where crops such as barley flourish in the rich soil.

After approximately 45 minutes, you will arrive at Briksdal Mountain Lodge, a small hotel at the foot of a mountain not far from Briksdal Glacier. From here it’s a 45 minute hike to a small lake that the melting glacial ice has created. You will then board a rafting boat that is ideal for sightseeing and begin paddling across the lake’s glassy surface. It’s a majestic, awe-inspiring setting. As you approach the terminus of Briksdal Glacier where it enters the lake, you will have a unique perspective to observe its icy tongue up close. From here, it will become obvious how the powerful force of the slowly moving ice has shaped the landscape over the centuries. You will also notice that the ancient ice looks blue although it really isn’t. Glacial ice appears to be blue because it absorbs every other color of spectrum and reflects blue light.

After about an hour on the water in the shadow of Briksdal Glacier, you will hike back to Briksdal Mountain Lodge where you will re-board your coach for the transfer back to Olden.
