Visit a rural farm and tour the fields with the owners, who will be quite willing to discuss how farming and life has changed since Latvia’s independence from the Soviet Union. During the Soviet era, collective farming was practiced, in which government-owned farms banded together to grow crops. When Latvia gained its independence in 1991, farms could be privately owned again. The farm that you will visit grows an abundance of raspberries and strawberries, as the conditions in this part of Latvia are quite favorable for both crops. Growing berries became even more widespread following the Soviet era because the farmers could directly reap the benefits. You may have the opportunity to pick some berries (if available) in the fields and enjoy homemade seasonal pie while lingering over a cup of tea with the owners of the farm. The village is an amazing assortment of homes, restaurants, mosques, shops and hospitals, all connected by wooden boardwalks. Surprisingly, some of the homes are quite elaborate, and you will have the unique opportunity of stopping by one for a cup of tea. Amazingly, people have lived in the Water Village for more than 1,300 years, making it one of the most historic areas in Brunei. Following your time at the Water Village, you will retrace your route as you make your way back to the pier.

Several Confucian scholars shared this belief and as one said, "A cup of tea is the beginning of Zen. Continuing on, you will visit Yongdusan Park. This popular park, which harmoniously blends the Busan Tower and 70 different species of trees, is a favorite relaxation place for the citizens of Busan. Also at Yongdusan is the statue of General Lee Sunsin who was a great commander in Joseon Dynasty period (1392-1910). Marvelous photo opportunities exist at the top of the Busan Tower which soars to just under 400 ft. Afterwards, you'll travel to the Jagalchi Fish Market. The Jagalchi Market is Korea's largest seafood market and is where you can see the lifestyle of the indigenous Busan natives. After the Korean War, the market solidified itself as a fish market. Most of the people who sell fish are women, so the women who sell here are called 'Jagalchi Ajumma', 'ajumma' meaning middle-aged or married women. This market represents Busan and is famous throughout the country. At the conclusion of your tour, If time permits, you will have the option of exploring the downtown area on your own or returning directly to the pier.

Gain an understanding of life on Lifou by visiting a prosperous vanilla plantation and the village of Jokin, which overlooks one of the island’s most gorgeous seascapes. Although Lifou’s terrain is rugged, especially along the coast, it is ideal for growing vanilla beans, as you will see firsthand on the plantation. The majority of the vanilla grown on the island is exported to flavor everything from ice cream to perfume, but a small quantity is always reserved for use by the islanders. After a tour of the wonderfully aromatic plantation, you will have the chance to sample a cup of vanilla-enhanced coffee. In the northernmost village of Jokin, you will enjoy free time to wander around and mingle with the residents, who will eagerly share the details of daily life in their small, rather remote village. Cruise the wildlife-rich waterways outside Brunei's capital and then stop for tea in the Water Village, a community built entirely above the water on stilts during this relaxing tour.

Departing from the pier, you will drive to Bandar Seri Bagawan, the energetic capital of Brunei. Not far from the center of town, you will board a boat and cruise the surrounding waterways, which are lined with mangroves. Strictly protected by Brunei law, the unspoiled vegetation supports an abundance of wildlife.

While motoring through the water, your guide will explain the complexities of the mangrove ecology and elaborate on the flora and fauna. During your cruise, you may see macaques, monitor lizards, crocodiles and countless waterfowl, which feed on the bountiful supply of shrimp, crabs and other aquatic food that inhabit these waters.

Perhaps the most unusual animal living in the mangroves is the Proboscis Monkey, which sports an unusually long nose. These primates are only found on the island of Borneo, and Brunei has a thriving population of them. Although they are tree-dwellers, Proboscis Monkeys are proficient swimmers, and you may catch a glimpse of one in the water or eating vegetation on land.

Board a catamaran for a refreshing discovery cruise around scenic Lyttelton Harbour, an extinct volcanic crater and gateway to the Antarctic. Your vessel skims the seas gracefully as your skipper provides fascinating commentary about the sights you’re seeing and their ties to the region’s earliest Maori and European settlers. Sip a warming cup of tea or coffee, learn of the legends of Ripapa Island, and go in search of playful Hector’s dolphins, the world’s smallest and rarest oceanic dolphin – only found in New Zealand. Gray with black-and-white markings, these petite cetaceans are often seen leaping and frolicking around these waters. You’ll also see ample evidence of the harbor’s violent, volcanic origins. This entire sheltered body of water lies in the caldera of an extinct volcano. Your journey will reveal that much of the jagged coastal terrain left behind now serves as nesting habitat for marine birds such as spotted shags, white-fronted terns and several species of gulls. After about two hours on the water, you’ll return to the pier with a keen understanding of this scenic New Zealand seaport.
