    Alpine Lake Canoe Adventure

    Skagway, Alaska

    Duration 4 1/2 hrs

Upon departing the dock in Skagway, guests will enjoy a town tour of historic Skagway. It is about a 40 minute drive from Skagway to the shores of Summit Lake. Along the way, we'll enjoy spectacular views of the Denver Glacier, the White Pass, and the numerous snow-capped peaks.

After arriving at Summit Lake, we'll take a short walk to where your 31-foot, motor assisted voyageur canoes are waiting. These large canoes are similar to the ones used by trappers and prospectors during the gold rush era. After a short safety talk and paddling instruction, we'll launch out onto the water. The rocky landscape of coves and islets make for stunning paddling in a pristine setting. If guests are feeling tired, or the winds pick up, there is a small motor on the canoes to assist. Explore narrow channels and stop off in a remote spot for a closer look around. After a short break, board the large canoes and explore more of the aquamarine colored waters of Summit Lake. After about 1.5 hours on the water, return to the van or bus and head back to Skagway.

    Duration 2 3/4 hrs

Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Adventure Camp in Dyea. Kick off your visit with what we like to call a “Musher Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time we have gathered up the most frequently asked questions about the sport. In the Musher Talk, we will share the fascinating answers and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to play with our puppies! Your affections actually socialize these future athletes, which is essential to their racing success.

After that, enjoy some time around the campfire and learn to create your own delicious treat as your guide teaches you the art of S’more roasting! This experience includes toasting the graham cracker, warming the chocolate, and roasting the perfect marshmallow, then combing it all for the most astounding S’more! Then you will have time to take a self-guided nature hike next to beautiful waterfalls and dense Alaskan forest or browse the gift shop and relax in our saloon with a deck overlooking the picturesque stream.

All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting! This is a tour full of Alaskan adventure, history, and awe-inspiring wilderness.

    OVERVIEW

Ride through some of Southeast Alaska’s most inspiring wilderness on a vintage railway that operated during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1890s. As soon as the narrow-gauge train begins its ascent, you will understand why it is known as “The Scenic Railway of the World.” The views will be spectacular in every direction as you travel 36 miles roundtrip along a route that the prospectors followed more than a century ago. Sights along the way include the aptly named Rocky Point and Bridal Veil Falls, a long roaring cascade that tumbles down a steep mountainside. You will pass through tunnels and over trestles spanning narrow gorges on the way to Inspiration Point. You will soon realize why this railway was recognized as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Its design was highly innovative at the time and constructing the railway was an arduous task.
