SHORE EXCURSIONS

This scenic rail tour runs in a complete circle around the island allowing visitors the opportunity to see the entire country by rail and by road. No trip to this two-island federation is complete without the experience of traveling on the new St. Kitts Scenic Railway, one of the most interesting train rides in the world. This one-of-a-kind narrow gauge railroad was built almost a century ago to deliver sugar cane from the fields to the sugar mills in the capital city of Basseterre. This still operational railway now provides a fascinating way to see the island from the comfort of double-deck railcars built specifically for touring the island of St. Kitts. All guests will have a seat on both levels of the railcar. The upper level features a spacious open-air observation deck with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

The lower level provides air conditioned comfort with expansive vaulted windows. Island ambiance is evoked with comfortable rattan furniture, complimentary specialty drinks, island music and a colorful narrative. The railway hugs the northeastern coastline with fields of sugarcane from the shoreline up to the mountains. The volcanic mountain ranges rise nearly 4,000 feet above sea level coated with lush green rainforests. Your tour begins with a scenic drive along the coast to a small town known as St. Ann’s Bay. View the sights from your comfortable coach as your guide narrates the history and provides interesting facts about Jamaica. Observe the town’s classic Statue of Columbus, honoring his landing here. Continue to Fern Gully, a gorge filled with hundreds of varieties of ferns.

Visit Konoko Falls and Park, the Taino Indians called this Paradise and you’ll see why these original inhabitants choose this as a settlement site. This 1.5-hour adventure brings you up-close with swimming pigs as you watch them swim at a private island. OVERVIEW

Hop aboard the vintage White Pass & Yukon Route Railway for an immensely picturesque train ride high into the mountains, following a path blasted out of the rocks in 1898, during the height of the Klondike Gold Rush. As soon as the narrow-gauge train begins its ascent, you will understand why the beloved WP&YR is known as “The Scenic Railway of the World.” The train will climb almost 3,000 feet in just 20 miles and present one breathtaking view after another, from thundering Bridal Veil Falls to the rugged peaks at Inspiration Point. You will also pass over the soaring bridge that spans precipitous Dead Horse Gulch, named for pack animals loaded with prospecting gear that fell to the bottom of the gorge. It will be an exhilarating ride on a railway so ingeniously constructed that it is recognized as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

Take an approximately 45-minute boat tour along the tip of this long and desolate peninsula. View pristine beaches, towering rock formations and the famed Los Arcos - a dramatic natural rock that arches out of the sea.
