Discover the remarkable history of Havana, Cuba through its massive buildings and notable structures dating back to the 15th century. Colonial Life and modern times are all part of this unforgettable tour of Cuba’s capital, Havana.

After departing from the pier, ride through Old Havana where you will have the opportunity to learn about some of the most iconic sites and the history of this charming municipality. You will have a chance to see age-old buildings such as the Iglesia de San Francisco de Paula, one of Havana's most charming churches, fully restored in 2000 and now used as a concert hall. Among the most significant buildings here, you will also see Train Central Station, the main railway terminal in Havana and the largest train station in Cuba, considered a national monument for its architectural and historical values.

At the entrance of Havana Harbor stands El Castillo De Los Tres Reyes Del Morro, built by the Spanish in 1589 and completed in 1640 to protect the city from buccaneers and pirates. In 1762, the castle was captured by the British under Sir George Pocock. Discover the military architecture of Havana from the 16th to 19th century on a visit to this historical fort.

On your way to El Cristo de La Habana, you will see another military fortress originally built to fill a weakness in the city's defenses – Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña.

Then witness the majestic representation of El Cristo de La Habana, only four decades old, which forms part of the landscape that characterizes the entrance to the Havana harbor. Standing at 65 feet tall, weighing 320 tons, consisting of 67 different pieces, and made of white Carrara marble, the monument was built in Italy by Cuban artist Jilma Madera, and inaugurated on December 25, 1958. History tells that the artist did not use a model as her inspiration but was inspired by what she felt was the definition of masculine beauty. However, legends say that she was inspired by the physique of an old lover.

On your way to the city’s famous Malecón seafront, one of the city's most meaningful and essential Cuban main roads, you will pass through the Túnel de La Habana (Havana’s Tunnel), which links the historic forts on the eastern bank with the ornate Spanish architecture in Old Havana.

From Havana Vieja to the atmospheric streets of Vedado in a comfortable air-conditioned bus you will get a view of the Nacional Hotel, the American Embassy, the University of Havana, the Christopher Columbus Cemetery and the famous corners, parks and plazas of this striking city.

Discover historical sites like the Civic Square, which was later, renamed the Revolution Square in 1959. You will also walk through the University of Havana, located in the Vedado district of Havana. This is oldest university in Cuba, founded in 1728 and one of the first to be founded in the Americas.

Our guide and expert on Cuban architecture will demonstrate the transition from Colonial to Modern times in this panoramic view of the city.

On your way back to the pier you will drive by the Green Tile House, Miramar, the Business Center, and palm tree-lined Fifth Avenue, considered one of the most beautiful avenues in Havana and initially called Avenida de las Américas, here, you will feel the pulse of the emerging economy. You’ll continue on through the Fifth Avenue Tunnel, which connects the Calzada Street, in Vedado, to the Santa Ana River in Santa Fe. The origin of this famous avenue goes back to the early 20th century as a result of the immigration of Havana’s wealthy classes to the west beyond the opening of the Almendares River.

Enjoy a remarkably comprehensive tour of Havana that presents it most historical and architecturally important landmarks.

After walking from the pier, you will soon arrive at the Square of Arms, the oldest square in Havana. It was named for the military exercises that were conducted there in the late 16th century, and its centerpiece is a statue of Manuel de Céspedes, the revolutionary that initiated Cuba’s fight for independence from Spain in 1868.

You will also visit Cathedral Square, where you will find one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas, and the Workshop of the Experimental Graphic. Many of Cuba’s most esteemed printmakers work out of the studio, and you will be welcome to watch them create their works of art.

A panoramic driving tour follows the walking tour, during which you will pass El Morro, the 17th-century fort that overlooks the harbor entrance, and an 18th-century fort built on a strategically important ridge. As a counterpoint to these foreboding defensive measures, a statue of Jesus Christ in white Carrara marble stands nearby. The statue was inaugurated on Christmas Day in 1958.

As impressive as these landmarks are, Colon Cemetery may eclipse them all. It features hundreds of incredibly ornate mausoleums and chapels, one modeled after Il Duomo in Florence. The first occupant was the cemetery’s architect, who died before finishing the project.

Following lunch, you will visit Legendario distillery, which produces a distinctively flavored rum blended with raisin extract.

Modern Havana in an American Classic

    Havana, Cuba

    Duration 3 1/2 hrs

Imagine driving down a street in a vintage Chevrolet, Ford, Buick, Cadillac, Mercury, Dodge, Oldsmobile or Pontiac. Usually, you only see these types of cars in museums, not in Cuba though. In Havana, the island’s capital, these are everyday cars and they have been for decades. ...

Transfer from the pier to Revolution Square to get your car and stop at some of the most iconic sites in Havana like the former seat of the Cuban Congress, the Capitol, which has housed the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the National Library of Science and Technology since 1959. The building’s work, which cost $17 million began in 1926, and took 5,000 workers three years, two months and 20 days to build. Many say that the structure is similar to Washington, D.C.’s Capitol Building.

You will also have a chance to visit the well-known Carlos III Street, built in 1836. The road connects the intersection of Reina and Belascoaín streets to the Castillo del Príncipe. Even though the street’s current name is Salvador Allende Avenue, the island’s residents keep referring to it as Carlos III, because of the statue of the Spanish king placed here in his honor. Here, you will also see the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Havana and the Plaza Carlos III shopping center, among others notable buildings.

Not many people think about visiting a cemetery , but according to recent reviews this is a must see stop. Founded in 1876 in the Vedado neighborhood of Havana, and the burial site of Ibrahim Ferrer Planas, one of the most famous Cuban musicians from the original Buena Vista Social Club, the cemetery has been very well maintained and the tombstones and memorials are so impressive, some even call them a works of art.

You will have the opportunity to enjoy the view of the Revolution Square, famous among Cubans for being the venue of the most important historical and political events on the island.

A visit to the National Hotel or Delirio Habanero Piano Bar for a refreshing beverage is included.

Finally, you will return to the pier.

Drive through the city in a vintage American-made car and then watch a dazzling music-and-dance performance at the legendary Tropicana Cabaret.

After departing from the pier in a classic American automobile, you will drive through some of Havana’s most representative neighborhoods. The architecture transitions from colonial to modern in the Vedado district, while Miramar was where the more affluent residents lived prior to the 1959 Revolution. Along the way, you will pause to walk through the University of Havana, which was founded in 1728.

In time, you will arrive at the Tropicana Cabaret, a storied nightclub where international entertainers such as Nat King Cole, Carmen Miranda and Josephine Baker once performed. The Tropicana opened in 1939 and soon became one of Havana’s top nightclubs, a reputation that it still enjoys.

Following a brief tour of the club, you will settle in to watch an outrageous performance of dancing and singing. Imagine a flamboyant Las Vegas-style show with a wild tropical twist, and that only touches on the frenetic extravaganza that awaits you.

Depending on the weather, you may watch the show outdoors beneath majestic royal palms and other towering trees lighted for added drama. The indoors setting is just as magnificent, which is yet another reason that the Tropicana has become an institution in Havana.

The show includes more than 200 passionate performers, all of them moving seductively in exotic sequined costumes. The performance will be a mesmerizing and glamorous spectacle that you will not soon forget.
