Check out Maui’s massive Haleakala volcano from bottom to top, as you journey from sea level to the summit to view spectacular island scenery and the immense crater of volcanic rock. You can catch a glimpse of Haleakala, Maui’s massive dormant volcano, from almost any point on the island, but you will go all the way to the top on this scenic journey – from sea level to 10,000 feet. At the summit is a vast crater seven and a half miles long by two and a half miles wide, and 3,000 feet deep. It last erupted in 1790 and has slumbered ever since, though that does not mean it won’t one day wake up. The Hawaiians revere it as a sacred site, and tell tales of Pele, Goddess of Fire and Volcanos.

The views from the top are magnificent. If the day is clear, you may even make out two other towering peaks – Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea on the Big Island. From the crater’s rim, you'll be able to appreciate first hand the unique beauty of this imposing caldera with its interesting mix of volcanic rock and plant life, some of which, like the silversword plant, is found only in Hawaii's volcanic craters.

Cruise to the island of Tahaa to visit a vanilla farm and then visit a small islet nearby to comb the beaches, snorkel and enjoy a typical Polynesian picnic lunch.

After departing from the pier in a boat, you will soon enter the protected turquoise lagoon that encircles Raiatea, an island whose name translates to faraway heaven. Upon arriving at the nearby island of Tahaa, it’s a short walk to reach the vanilla plantation. Seventy percent of the vanilla grown in French Polynesia is from Tahaa and it makes for a wonderfully fragrant setting. While strolling about, you can expect to see and smell aromatic vanilla pods curing in the sun. You may also walk among the rows of climbing orchids that produce the pods and learn how they are hand-pollinated. You will also have time to shop for vanilla-infused products.

Re-boarding your boat, it’s a short cruise to one of the lagoon’s gorgeous reef islets, known as motus. Few places are so relaxing, serene and ideal for beachcombing. An island style lunch will be served during your time on the motu, and the remainder of your stay will be free to do as you please. You might sunbathe or relax in the shade, doing nothing more ambitious than watching the waves gently lap at the shore. Or you may enjoy a refreshing swim and a bit of snorkeling (mask and snorkel provided).

Explore Honolulu’s highlights – from Pearl Harbor and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific to Hawaii’s first Christian church, and Iolani Palace and Washington Place, both former residences of the Hawaiian monarchy.

Pearl Harbor is one of Hawaii’s best-known landmarks and the scene of the devastating aerial attack by Japan that drove the U.S. into WWII. Learn more about that infamous day, and pay your respects to ship’s 1,177 crewmen who died there.

In central Honolulu stand face to face with the larger-than-life statue of King Kamehameha I, the leader who united the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom. Just across the street you’ll see the Iolani Palace, residence of Hawaii's last two monarchs. European in design, it boasted Hawaii’s first electric lights, flush toilets and internal phone system. Also nearby is Kawaiahao Church, Hawaii's first Christian house of worship, built of coral slabs from the offshore reefs.

At the heart of the downtown historic district you will notice the elegant Washington Place, now a museum, and once home to Liliuokalani, Hawaii’s last queen. Drive through the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, in the extinct volcanic crater known as the Punchbowl. It is the final resting place of some 53,000 veterans who lost their lives in 20th century wars, including those who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Enjoy panoramic city views on your drive to the airport.

Cruise through a crystal-clear lagoon just offshore, stopping to snorkel and swim before continuing into the open sea where the views are even more spectacular.

After departing from the pier in a sleek catamaran, you will settle in for a relaxing and immensely scenic cruise through a nearby lagoon. The 65-foot Ohana is the largest and fastest catamaran in its class and offers plenty of shaded seating under its canopy. For those who prefer to bask in the sun, there is comfortable mesh netting on the bow. With its shallow draft, the catamaran is ideal for cruising the lagoon and into areas other boats simply can’t reach. The waters here are translucent, but for an even closer look at the wonders below, you will navigate until you reach your swim stop. Masks and snorkels will be provided for your exploration; the sandy area boasts tiki carved stones which are worth a visit. Access to the water is via a large, easy step ladder and will make getting in and out of the water an easy task for all.

The sights are just as magnificent above the surface, as heart-shaped mountainous Moorea is lined with pristine beaches backed by forests of lush palms. In many ways, the landscape hasn’t changed dramatically since Captain James Cook and Captain Samuel Wallis explored here in the 18th century.

In time, you will sail out of the lagoon and into the open sea. As you sail back to the pier, enjoy some refreshments and be sure to keep an eye out for frolicking spinner dolphins.

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive in the heart of historical Wailuku, where you will stop in a variety of unpretentious restaurants and locales to sample pure Hawaiian specialties. Some of the dishes will reflect the town’s Asian and Pacific Islander ethnicities.

While the exact offerings will vary, you can expect to taste breakfast staples such as banana pancakes and hot malasadas, a fried-dough treat that Portuguese sugarcane workers introduced to Hawaii in the late 19th century.

Loco moco is another classic, and the Tasty Crust has been serving it for more than 40 years in Wailuku. The dish is a savory combination of rice, hamburger patty and brown gravy, topped with a fried egg or two.

In all likelihood, you will also sample delectable sashimi, a variety of poke bowls and seasoned saimin noodles. Another favorite is Spam musubi, a handheld with a slice of Spam wedged between two blocks of rice and wrapped in nori, a Japanese seaweed.

You will also sample several beers at the Maui Brewing Company, Hawaii’s largest craft brewery. Selections range from a citrus-flavored India Pale Ale known as Big Swell to Coconut Hiwa Porter, a robust dark ale with hints of mocha.

A van will drive you to the head of a lush jungle trail where you’ll begin your 1/2 mile hike to two secluded waterfalls. The largest - Jungle Falls cascades down 50 feet to a shallow pool where you can relax and enjoy the tropical setting. Finish up with snacks on a bluff overlooking the Huleia Valley. The trail can be wet & muddy and there are uneven jungle steps to maneuver.

Spectacular volcanoes, craters and steam vents are waiting to be explored at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park that has recently reopened after a period of tumultuous volcanic activity. The landscape of Volcanoes Park has dramatically changed as the floor of the Kilauea crater sunk over 1,500 feet and the overall caldera quadrupled in size and widened by over a square mile.

Today, the explosive eruptions, earthquakes and ash clouds have been replaced by remarkable changes in the summit area that your guests will observe on their Volcanoes and Blossoms Tour experience.

The highlights of this exciting tour include approximately half hour visits at each of the following destinations in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park while riding to each stop in comfort on mini-coach vehicles. They’ll walk through the Kilauea Visitors Center to receive information on the Park’s current conditions, view educational exhibits and interact with park rangers. Then they’ll be engulfed in rising steam as ground water seeps down to the hot volcanic rocks at the Steam Vents. The area between the edge of Kilauea’s caldera and the outer cliffs are treeless because the extreme heat destroys their roots; only shallow-rooted grasses and other hearty plants survive here. Unforgettable views for miles are offered from Kilauea Iki Overlook. Kilauea’s massive size and scale is realized from this vantage point and Halemau’uma’u Crater and Mauna Loa are seen in the distance.Guests visit the famous Akatsuka Orchid Gardens established in Volcano, Hawaii in 1974. Akatsuka is known world-wide for their impressive collection of Cattleya orchids and cultivation of Anthuriums, Bromeliads and more. Guests browse the 13,000 square foot tropical plants.Between May and August a $20,000 award-winning, one-of-a-kind orchid is on display that blooms just once a year.

The Volcanoes National Park Tour is not to be missed and includes round-trip transportation from the pier on full-size mini buses.

You’ll travel from sea level to 10,000 feet on this journey to the top of Haleakala, Maui’s massive volcano. more...

You'll marvel at the crater's eerie landscape of cinder cones and ancient lava formations. It last erupted in 1790 and has slumbered ever since, though that does not mean it won’t one day wake up.

The Hawaiians revere Haleakala as a sacred site, and tell tales of Pele, Goddess of Fire and Volcanos. At sunset you may think that Pele has awakened, as the clouds are on fire till dusk quenches the flames and slowly transforms the sky into a starry dome.

Gain an understanding of the epic Polynesian migration to the Hawaiian Islands in canoes centuries ago and then paddle around the historic harbor in one of these iconic outrigger canoes.

After a short walk to the Canoe Club, you will settle in under a traditional thatched hale and learn about the volcanic formation of the Hawaiian Islands and how the Polynesians migrated here. Incredibly, they paddled thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean in open canoes about 600 years before the Europeans began to sail across the oceans.

Their journey is an epic tale of perseverance and discovery, and to more fully understand it you will hear about the Polynesians’ navigation techniques based on star compasses and ocean currents. You will also hear about the founding of the venerable Canoe Club.

Afterwards, you will ease into a double-hulled outrigger canoe and paddle into the harbor.

You might be surprised by the stability of the canoe and how easy it is to paddle, especially in the sheltered waters of the harbor.

Along the way, an expert paddler from the club will offer instruction and a glimpse into the island’s history. You will see where King Kamehameha I landed his war canoes in 1790 in his successful quest to unify the Hawaiian Islands.

You will also enjoy a spectacular view of the dormant Haleakala volcano and the majestic Maui Mountains and a get close-up look at how the harbor was altered long ago to accommodate the transport of sugar by rail.
