This leisurely tour combines a drive through the lush Tijuca Forest and a trip up to Corcovado Mountain and the famous Christ the Redeemer landmark. From this vantage point, you'll get a birds-eye view of beautiful Rio.

Departing from the port, your drive takes you through downtown to the Cosme Velho district. Here, you will board the cog railway for the 30-minute ride up to Corcovado. Emperor Dom Pedro II opened the railway in October 1884. At that time it was opened with steam trains but they were replaced with electric trains in 1910. The 2.5-mile railway itself travels through the scenic Tijuca Forest that covers an area of 47 square miles and the ride offers fine views. As you reach the upper terminus, weather permitting, you will be treated to breathtaking views over the city. To reach the very top and the 120-foot-high statue, you will take an elevator and escalator.

After approximately 1-hour, you'll descend the mountain via the cog railway and rejoin your motor coach for a panoramic drive through the city to the Sao Conrado District and past Rio's beautiful beaches before returning to the pier.

This full day tour combines the best of Rio's spectacular landmark attractions - Sugar loaf Mountain and Corcovado, and includes a traditional Churrascaria lunch at one of Rio's finest barbecue restaurants. Truly Cidade Maravilhosa or Marvelous City!

Begin with a scenic drive to Sugarloaf Mountain, where upon arrival, you’ll board a cable car for a short ride up to Urca Hill, with its lovely gardens and views of the city below. Those who wish to venture to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain can take another cable car to the summit at 1,300 feet above the sea. The views from the top are extraordinary.

Next, you’ll make your way to the cool confines of the Tijuca Forest, a quiet green sanctuary away from the noise of the city. Comprising an area of 47 square miles, this once dense tropical forest was largely cut down in the 19th century to accommodate coffee plantations. A project of reforestation was initiated in the late 1800s with the planting of more than 100,000 trees. Today, the park is a favorite spot to get away from the city's hustle and bustle. At Cosme Velho you will leave the coach and board the cog railway for the ride up to Corcovado, also known as Hunchback Mountain. As the train makes its way up the mountain, you will be riding through dense vegetation glimpsing now and again spectacular views of Rio. The 120-foot-high statue of Christ the Redeemer was completed in 1931 and stands at the top of the mountain with arms out stretched in welcome. To reach the top of the 120-foot-high statue, you will take an elevator and an escalator.

Following your visit, you’ll be treated to a traditional Brazilian Churrascaria lunch at a local restaurant. The aroma as you enter the restaurant will be sure to get your taste buds going. You’ll have your choice of tender barbecued meats from the huge grills and the salads and accompaniments are equally tasty (the meal is not suitable for vegetarians; however, the restaurant will be happy to provide a salad plate).

Later, on your return drive to the ship, you’ll drive through some of Rio’s finest residential areas and pass the Rodrigo de Preitas Lagoon and Botanical Gardens.

Ride a cog train up Corcovado Mountain for an up-close look at the Christ the Redeemer statue and then pass equally famous Copacabana Beach on the way to the airport.

After departing from the pier, you will drive across the bustling metropolis of Rio de Janeiro to the southern neighborhood of Cosme Velho. Lovely and leafy with an assortment of brightly colored neo-colonial homes, Cosme Velho sits at the foot of Corcovado Mountain.

Upon arriving, you will board a cog train for a circuitous ride up the mountain and through the dense Tijuca Forest. Trains have been operating on this 2.5-mile railway since 1884 and spectacular views have long been the main attraction. Although the trees were cut down for coffee plantations in the late 1800s, a reforestation program soon followed.

For the ultimate panoramic view, you will ride an elevator and escalator to the summit, where the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue keeps a watchful eye over Rio. Inaugurated in 1931, the Art Deco-style statue was constructed with reinforced concrete and then covered with 6 million soapstone tiles. The statue looks particularly inspiring when shrouded in mist.

After descending Corcovado Mountain, you will drive along the edge of Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and on to famed Copacabana Beach. This lengthy crescent-shaped stretch of sand is always abuzz with activity and presents a true slice of Carioca life. It will leave quite the memory as you continue on to the airport for your flight home.

Perfect for those with late flights, this tour allows departing guests to enjoy a unique perspective of Rio and iconic Sugarloaf Mountain from the other side of Guanabara Bay, a jaunt that still leaves hours for shopping before heading to the airport.

After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a leisurely drive through the bustling metropolis of Rio de Janeiro, passing one charming residential neighborhood after another. Before long, you will begin one of the most extraordinarily scenic and dramatic drives in Brazil—across the 8-mile-long bridge that connects Rio to neighboring Niteroi.

Named for President Costa e Silva, who authorized the project’s construction in 1968, the bridge is the longest such structure in the entire Southern Hemisphere. Upon reaching the city of Niteroi on the other side of Guanabara Bay, you will pause to snap photos. It’s an outstanding spot to capture towering Sugarloaf Mountain, the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain, and the city’s ever-growing skyline.

Then, it’s back to Rio, specifically - gorgeous Vermelha Beach. Tucked away in a rarely crowded section of the bay, it offers a different perspective of Sugarloaf. This massive block of granite has long been a landmark for sailors, as it soars about 1,300 feet into the air.

The last leg of this excursion will be a shopping spree at one of the most fashionable malls in Rio. With three hours to browse the stores, you should also have time to dine on your own before transferring to the airport for your flight home.

Discover the serene beauty of a nature lover’s paradise as you tour the Botanical Gardens and experience the cool, green realm of Tijuca National Park.

Begin with a scenic transfer by open-air jeep to the Botanical Gardens, passing Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and the residential area known as Jardim Botanico due to its proximity to the Botanical Gardens. This lush oasis was inaugurated in 1808 by King Dom João VI. As in imperial times, the gardens have remained a haven of peace amid a teeming metropolis. A guided walk at a leisurely pace will let you enjoy the many varieties of plants and examples of endangered species. The most striking features are the transverse avenues of 90-foot-high royal palms. In addition to the flora, the gardens are also home of some 140 species of birds and monkeys living in the trees. Your guide will show you the orchid nursery and the insect-eating plants house. Half natural jungle, half laid out in beautifully landscaped gardens; visitors never fail to enjoy spending time in these magical surroundings.

From the Botanical Gardens, you’ll head to the western fringes of Rio, where various forests were united to form an 8,200-acre national park. Your 4-wheel drive vehicle will take you through mountainous areas and deep into the lush, green forest. A stop will be made at the Chinese Lookout where you can enjoy great views of the Corcovado and Sugar Loaf mountains, Ipanema and Leblon beaches and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon from the Chinese-style pavilion here.

Your drive then continues to the Taunay Waterfalls where you will make a final stop before driving back to the pier.

No trip to Rio would be complete without discovering two of Rio’s most famous landmarks - Copacabana and Sugar Loaf.

Traveling from the pier and downtown commercial district, you'll first enjoy a drive to exotic Praia Vermelha, also referred to as Red Beach and located near Urca Hill, the first ascent on your way to the summit of Sugar Loaf. The Sugar Loaf, or Pão de Açucar, rises as a massive granite cone at the entrance of Guanabara Bay.

Upon arriving at the cable car station, you'll board one of the cars for the short climb to the top of Urca Hill which sits at 650 feet. Here, you’ll find shops and restaurants tucked amongst beautiful shady gardens. The second phase of your journey involves a breathtaking ride to the 1,200 ft. summit of Sugar Loaf. From high atop the mountain, the bird's eye view of the city and surrounding beaches is simply stunning. Tour participants then have the choice of traveling on both rides all the way to the top, or the faint-hearted may choose to remain on the middle level and enjoy the views from that vantage point.

Descending back to the base of the mountain, you'll re-join your coach and travel through one of the city's residential areas, en route to Copacabana, Rio's widely celebrated stretch of crescent beach. Set against a backdrop of towering skyscraper apartment buildings, this vibrant area of Rio that never seems to rest, is a must-see for visitors. Your tour will also travel past the neighboring beach areas of Leme and Ipanema before making your way back to the pier.

Enjoy a carefree driving tour of Rio de Janeiro, the cultural capital of Brazil whose name alone evokes images of samba dancing, bikini-clad sunbathing and an irrepressible exuberance for life. Rio is also known for its historical buildings, the finest of which you will see in the heart of downtown.

Boarding your coach at the pier, you’ll head to the heart of the city where you will see modern skyscrapers and broad avenues that contrast with colonial structures and narrow pedestrian malls. There is the beautifully ornate Municipal Theater for ballet and classical music performances, whose design resembles that of the Paris Opera House. Highlighting the diversity of the architecture, you will also see the new Cathedral, a conical-shaped building inspired by a Maya pyramid in Mexico. In fact, you will pass one architectural landmark after another, including the Museum of Modern Art and the soaring World War II monument that towers over Flamengo Park. Afterwards, you will drive through several historical neighborhoods and on past the Jockey Club racetrack and the city’s immense Botanical Garden, which was founded more than 200 years ago.

Still, it’s the beaches that in many ways define Rio de Janeiro, and you will gaze upon several of the most famous ones, such as Copacabana and Leblon, which is actually an extension of the iconic Ipanema. Afterwards, you will drive back to the pier, stopping en route at the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon for refreshments where you will also have a beautiful view of Corcovado and Tijuca Forest.

Enjoy the many charms of vibrant Copacabana beach by relaxing in the sun, strolling the long beachfront walkway or browsing the oceanfront shops.

Depart from the pier and enjoy a scenic drive to the neighborhood of Copacabana, an area separated from the rest of Rio de Janeiro until a tunnel was built to connect them in 1892. Over the years, Copacabana rapidly grew around luxurious landmarks such as the famed Copacabana Palace, which is now considered a national monument. Later, the waterfront thoroughfare Avenue Atlantica was expanded, and a nearly 3-mile-long mosaic walkway was built along the beach in a black-and-white wave motif.

Even so, as you will discover, it is the beach at Copacabana that captures the most attention. After arriving at this lengthy crescent-shaped stretch of sand, you will have approximately three full hours to enjoy its charms. You can expect the beach to be bustling, and that is much of the appeal, as you will experience a true slice of Carioca life. There may be children playing soccer, retirees lounging under umbrellas, families frolicking in the surf, and people of all ages walking up and down the shoreline for miles.

You are free to enjoy Copacabana beach and the neighboring area however you please. You might sunbathe, take a refreshing swim or cross the Avenue Atlantica and browse the shops and restaurants that overlook the beach. At the designated time your return transfer will pick you up at the Copacabana Palace Hotel and bring you back to the pier.
