Take in the natural beauty of Haines while visiting sites that include an historical fort, a wildlife center devoted to bald eagles and Alaska’s Chilkoot State Park. During the driving tour of Fort William Seward, you will hear how it was built in 1902 as a display of power during a border dispute with Canada. Many of its original buildings remain and have been converted into private residences and art galleries. Later, at the American Bald Eagle Foundation, a wildlife center dedicated to the majestic raptors, you will have the opportunity to attend a presentation with a live raptor and browse the numerous exhibits. Chilkoot State Park is home to a myriad of wildlife including a large population of brown bears.

Need to Know:

Note: This tour includes approximately 2 1/2 hours of easy to moderate walking/standing that includes some steps and uneven ground at Chilkoot State Park. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Layered clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Participants should be prepared for the possibility of rain. The cannery may not be in operation at the time of your visit, dependent upon the time of the season and the current salmon catch.
