SHORE EXCURSIONS

Learn about, meet and interact with the most beloved mammal in the ocean - the bottlenose dolphin. Upon arrival, you’ll meet the trainers for an educational briefing. This program takes place in approximately 20-foot-deep water, in small groups of no more than 10, so everyone has the opportunity to meet the dolphins while in the water and to ask questions. Highlights include a petting and feeding session with the dolphins, the popular high speed 'foot push' and optional professional photo and DVD/video opportunity. Upon completion of your dolphin swim, stay and enjoy the beautiful and always calm lagoon beach.

Take in the spectacular tropical views while riding an aerial tram to the top of Paradise Point, where you will browse a museum full of authentic artifacts from shipwrecks. The collection includes pistols and cannons, bars of gold and silver, and rare items from ships lost in hurricanes. To better understand how the treasures were recovered, try to pick up coins using the remote-controlled arm of a replica deep-sea vehicle.

OVERVIEW

Hike an abandoned logging road through the wilds of Chichagof Island, which lies within the 17-million-acre Tongass National Forest. Even the drive there will be spectacular, as you will pass through the seemingly endless natural beauty of Spasski River Valley before reaching Tongass, America’s largest national forest. Upon arriving, you will hike about two miles on a logging trail that cuts through private lands and eventually reaches a secluded mountaintop viewing area. Along the way, your local guide will share knowledge of the flora and fauna that inhabit the area, along with history of the land. Because of its remote location and limited accessibility, Chichagof is home to some of the animals most often associated with Alaska, including the world’s largest brown bear population, estimated to be three bears per square mile. You might also see bald eagles soaring above, land otters, Sitka black-tail deer and red squirrels.

Zip through the turquoise seas off Charlotte Amalie in a powerful catamaran that will take you to one of the island’s premier spots for snorkeling. The one-level Powercat offers plenty of cushioned seats in the shade and sun so you can easily find a spot to your liking. Either way, the views will be wonderfully picturesque on the way to Buck Island. A different sort of tropical scenery awaits you beneath the water’s surface, as you will discover while snorkeling the island’s Turtle Cove. You might spot French angelfish, brilliantly colored damselfish and bright-blue tangs. Hawksbills and green turtles are prevalent and watching them gracefully swim by is a showstopper. Next it is off to Honeymoon Beach, on Water Island another idyllic setting that is great for swimming and beachcombing with its easy access.

Follow the rugged Thousand Water Trail in an off-road Super Truck and stop along the way for photos of the most stunning natural attractions. You will travel caravan-style in a convoy of 4x4 vehicles that can easily handle the harsh, rugged terrain as you will discover firsthand by driving across rivers and through mud banks. After passing the active Hengill volcano, which supplies geothermal energy to much of South Iceland, you will pause near the Nesjavellir Power Plant and take in the sweeping views of Lake Þingvallavatn. Ahead lies Hvammsvik, where you can ease into the outdoor hot springs. Few experiences are quite so relaxing and picturesque as the 1,200-acre resort is nestled along the shore of Hvalfjördur, a lengthy fjord named for a folkloric red-headed whale. Later, you will stop to snap photos of thundering Þórufoss waterfall and Úlfarsfell, a smallish mountain that offers surprisingly long views of Reykjavik and Faxafloi Bay.

Explore Bora Bora in a 4x4 vehicle and by boat, stopping along the way at scenic overlooks, a sarong factory and a local restaurant for lunch. The adventure will begin by driving up a winding road that overlooks Faanui Bay, one of the island’s most spectacular settings. Besides enjoying the sweeping views of the bay, you will see several artillery cannons that were installed on Bora Bora during World War II. You will then visit a factory that makes pareos, the colorful sarongs that are so popular on Bora Bora. You will notice that the patterns often reflect the island’s bright tropical vegetation. The sights and mode of transportation will then change dramatically as you board a boat and cruise Bora Bora’s gorgeous lagoon. After anchoring near a sandbank, chances are, you will see stingrays gracing swimming by. For a closer look at the underwater wonders, you may snorkel.

Don’t think… just trust and launch yourself from the Flighthouse platform. Feel the adrenaline surge and the wind gust as you soar 100 feet above the Manatee Lagoon. The first three zips crisscross Harvest Caye, each zip long enough for you to feel the rush and enjoy the sensation. The adventure will begin atop Sunview Park, where after a briefing to help you maximize the experience, you will be harnessed into the zipline. It is the longest double zipline in Andalusia so you can share the thrills with a friend or family member that will race along side-by-side on the adjacent zipline. The venue for this adrenaline-pumping ATV escapade will be an adventure park with all sorts of winding nature trails and areas where you can carve your own path through the leafy wilderness. Mud will be flying as you cross a riverbed and race up a mountain with scenic overlooks that will present the back country in all its glory. Be sure to look for wildlife as iguanas, agoutis and tropical birds are abundant. Once you reach Luna Beach, you can thoroughly relax on this gorgeous stretch of sand that rims a private beach club. Enjoy the gorgeous scenery and views of the Corfiot countryside, as you travel to your horseback riding experience in the northern coast of Corfu. The stables are located in a shady olive grove by the sea. Your ride sets off across the wild headland and along Sidari’s lanes and tracks towards the beach. The trail offers you some magnificent views of the beautiful peninsula of Erimitis and paths bordered by many beautiful trees, flowers, shrubs and a variety of wild herbs.

You'll ride down to scenic Sidari Beach where you'll stop for a few minutes before retracing the same route back to the riding center.

OVERVIEW

Walk through a series of inland caves formed eons ago and admire the island’s natural beauty while driving along the coast. Pirates once used the Crystal Caves as hideouts and legend has it that treasures are still buried in their depths. While following a winding trail through the ancient caverns, you will see eerily illuminated stalactites and stalagmites, a glass-smooth underground lake and a cave whose ceiling collapsed ages ago. The guide will describe how the caves were formed and the wonders that lie within them. Back on the surface, you will settle in for a panoramic coastal drive, during which you will pause for photos at the Wreck of the Ten Sail memorial. It commemorates the convoy 10 British ships that wrecked on the reefs just offshore in 1794 in a massive maritime disaster. You will also stop to witness the coastal blowholes that spew ocean water as high as 20 feet into the air.

Rays the roof with a new animal experience at Blue Lagoon Island, home of Dolphin Encounters in the Bahamas! The certified animal trainers will first teach you about the natural history of the gentle Southern stingray in a fun, dockside briefing.

During your program, you will be able to safely interact with our rays on a shallow platform. Feel their silky smooth fins as they glide under your fingertips, even getting a chance to feed one if you are daring.

These graceful animals are fascinating to watch from above the water but even more exciting to see while snorkeling with them! You are certain to soak up this experience with stingrays and “rays your awareness” for the protection of these beautiful creatures of the sea.

Upon completion of the stingray encounter, retreat to the every calm lagoon beach, where you will enjoy a delicious grilled lunch, white sandy beaches and a host of fun water sport activities.

Step aboard a comfortable and stable catamaran for a trip to the northernmost coral reef in the world. Relax on deck while the crew provides informative commentary on the island and the fascinating undersea ecosystem. After a leisurely cruise, you'll find yourself moored in a magical deep blue oasis, bordered by fringe reef on nearly all sides. Here, you'll be given a mask, snorkel, fins, buoyancy vest and instruction on how you may best enjoy this undersea paradise. Immerse yourself in crystal clear waters under the watchful eye of your instructors and explore the great expanses of pristine reef. Drive a specially designed off-road adventure kart through a private rainforest preserve in the rugged Alaskan wilderness. After an orientation briefing, you will gear up for a 90-minute guided trek along winding mountain trails and off road. With the guide leading the way, your caravan of adventure karts will set off into the rainforest. A comfortable pace will be maintained as you thread your way around steep curves, climbing to a height that will present unparalleled views of the Tongass National Forest, Behm Canal and the Inside Passage. Stops will be made along the way to soak up the grandeur and natural beauty. Drivers and passengers will have the opportunity to switch positions. See the natural beauty that abounds in the island’s more remote regions by riding an ATV through a tropical rainforest and by cruising along the mangrove-lined shores of southern Roatan. The adventure will begins at Big Bight where you will hop on an ATV and race off caravan-style, following the guide into the surrounding wilderness. If it has been raining recently, the natural trails will have potholes and mud will be flying, which will make the driving even more fun. After a brief stop, you will transfer to the marina and sail through the mangrove forests line the banks most everywhere. Besides being environmentally beneficial, mangroves provide shelter for a myriad of animals, especially water birds such as green herons and roseate spoonbills.

Cruise to Land’s End, the southwestern tip of Baja California, on a catamaran that will bring you to a prime spot for snorkeling the crystal-clear waters. There will be plenty of room to stretch out on the catamaran’s open decks and covered seating while enjoying the open bar. The scenery will be absolutely spectacular the entire way. In time, you will reach El Arco, the natural arch that the tides and wind have cut out of the granite over millennia. Few spots are so photogenic, especially if sea lions are present. They congregate there for the solitude and protection as the barren shoreline is inaccessible by land. The snorkeling will be just as memorable as these waters are teeming with tropical fish. You might also spot sea turtles, frolicking dolphin and manta rays gracefully swimming by. A traditional Mexican lunch will be served on board the catamaran while anchored at a particularly scenic spot.

This is the highest natural working lighthouse in the world and at night, light can be seen more than 30 miles out at sea. Your invigorating day starts when you board your transport for a five minute ride to the foot of El Creston hill, where the lighthouse is located. Soon after, your challenging hike will take you up the winding path to the world’s highest natural lighthouse.

If you’re a nature lover, don’t miss this opportunity to see iguanas, tropical birds, butterflies and some exotic varieties of cactus and flowers along the way. Built between 350 B.C. and 50 B.C., the monumental structures – which include an Acropolis with administrative buildings – suggest that Ichkabal was a major political and ceremonial center. You will also visit nearby Bacalar, a freshwater lagoon that dense mangroves shelter. The color of the water is usually a startling blue, but it changes with the angle and intensity of the sunlight. After a brief orientation on how to use the Mirage Eclipse Pedalboard you will pedal out of the confines of the Harvest Caye Lagoon and will navigate along beautiful mangroves in the Placencia Lagoon.
