Visit several of Old Town’s most iconic sites, which gained even greater fame after serving as locations for the fictional capital King’s Landing in “Game of Thrones.”

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive in the oldest section of Dubrovnik, a revered UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fans of the TV series “Game of Thrones,” which is based on George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novels, will recognize this part of Dubrovnik as King’s Landing, the fictional capital of the Seven Kingdoms.

Your first stop will be imposing Lovrijenac Fortress, located just outside the medieval walls that encircle Old Town. Known as Dubrovnik’s Gibraltar, the 11th-century fortress perches atop a craggy rock overlooking the sea, which represented Blackwater Bay in the books.

Continuing on, you will enter Old Town and make your way to the defensive walls to the south. After climbing the steps, you will walk along the stone battlements, which afford extraordinary views of the sea and the inner city. These walls appeared in numerous scenes in “Game of Thrones”; they were particularly prominent in the Battle of Blackwater Bay.

Later, you will enjoy free time within Old Town, where you may explore other sites that you may recognize from the series. For instance, the Jesuit Staircase was where Cersei Lannister began her Walk of Shame in Season Five, and many of the show’s market scenes were filmed along St. Dominic Street. Following free time, you will return to the pier.

Watch local villagers demonstrate how flour was made centuries ago in a water-powered mill, how wool was processed and how bread was traditionally baked under an iron dome.

After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a relaxing and picturesque drive inland to the village of Ljuta. Little has changed in Ljuta over the centuries and following tradition is still cherished, especially in how food and other items are produced.

You will witness this reverence for traditional ways at a mill on the Ljuta River. Ljuta means “angry” in Croatian, a reference to the rapid flow of the water in the narrower stretches of the stream. These areas are ideal for water-powered mills, as you will see by watching grain ground between two grindstones during a demonstration of flour making.

Nearby, you will also see how wool was traditionally processed, another labor-intensive endeavor that shows how arduous life once was in Croatia. Linen mortar was used during the process to soften the wool for clothing.

Continuing on, you will soon arrive in Cadmos Village, an adventure park with a deep respect for nature and heritage. Located in an oak forest, this eco-oasis offers all sorts of recreational activities, including cooking classes that follow time-honored techniques.

In particular, you will see how bread is baked under a cast-iron dome covered with red-hot embers. The dome becomes an oven of sorts that bakes the bread perfectly. Following the demonstration, you will enjoy a Croatian snack.

Pause for photos at three overlooks that present extraordinary views of Dubrovnik’s medieval Old Town, where you will enjoy free time.

After departing from the pier, you will begin a panoramic driving tour of the Dubrovnik, pausing along the way for photos at some of the most spectacular elevated settings. Your first stop will be at the Franjo Tudman Bridge, the most expensive bridge in Croatia.

Named to honor the country’s first president, the suspension bridge is a beautiful, modern structure that offers sweeping harbor vistas. You will also be treated to magnificent views of the Lapad peninsula residential area and the forested Elaphite islands beyond.

Continuing along the coastal road south of Dubrovnik, you will next pause at the Bosanka lookout, where you will be presented with one of the most revealing views of the walled Old Town. The setting is truly inspiring, especially on a clear day.

For yet another perspective of Old Town, you will soon arrive at Srdj Hill. Napoleon’s soldiers built Fort Imperial here in 1812 because of the strategic location and view of the sea. While there are about 80 steps to reach the hilltop, it is well worth the effort.

You will then enjoy a meandering ride down to Pile Gate, an ancient entrance that leads to a welcoming square in the medieval Old Town. During free time, you might walk along the 13th-century ramparts and stroll the main street, commonly known as the Stradun. You will also have the option to stay longer and return by shuttle on your own.

Sail along the gorgeous coast of Dubrovnik’s medieval Old Town, taking in the historical attractions on the way to one of the premier beaches on Lapad peninsula.

After departing from the pier in a sleek catamaran, you will sail along the dramatic coast of Old Town, which massive stone walls from the 16th century encircle. If this perspective of medieval Dubrovnik looks familiar, it may be from watching the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” which often used Old Town as a film location.

Continuing on, you will sail past forested Lokrum Island and Fort Lovrijenac, a site so imposing it is known as the Gibraltar of Dubrovnik. Both have also been featured in “Game of Thrones” as they look much like they did in medieval times.

As you approach Lapad peninsula, the captain will decide which beach will best allow you to maximize your experience. It will be either Sunset Beach or Copacabana Beach. Both are wonderfully relaxing and rim sheltered coves.

Feel free to do as you please upon arriving. You might stretch out on the powdery sand and bask in the sun, stroll along the enchanting coastline and take a refreshing swim in the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea. You will also find abundant shade if you wish to relax out of the sun.

The islands that you will see just off shore are the Elaphites, an ancient Greek word that references the deer that once roamed there.

Leaving the ship take a drive by coach over the panoramic road to a viewpoint from where you can see the magnificent view of Dubrovnik and its Riviera. Head toward the picturesque seaside resort town of Cavtat. Here, you’ll have opportunity for a pleasant walk along the sea front promenade or have a coffee in one of many cafes. Drive along the eastern coast of the Dubrovnik Riviera toward Komaji Village to visit a winery. Upon arrival, proceed to the Crvik family vineyards. The owner of the winery will greet you on arrival and give you a presentation about his wines and show you the production process. He’ll even invite you to participate in a tasting of his vintage wines.

Following the tasting, you’ll re-board your coach and depart for Dubrovnik. The Old Town is unique for its marble-paved squares, cobbled streets, tall houses, churches, palaces, fountains, and museums, all built from the same light-colored stone. Along the way, you’ll visit the Dominican Monastery, inside where you’ll discover the finest collection of Renaissance paintings in Dubrovnik. Among the many works by local and Italian masters is a painting by Tizian. After the walking tour, you’ll have some free time to explore on your own.

Dive beneath the sea where Edivo wines are aged underwater and sample several of these unusual products once you resurface. The boutique wines are aged in glass bottles contained in clay amphoras that are submerged underwater for nearly two years. You will view this unique wine cellar by diving to a depth of up to 80 feet just off the coast of Drace, a village on the Peljesac Peninsula. You will see the encrusted amphoras sitting upright in metal cages on the floor of the sea and lying on their sides in the hull of a shipwreck. The process of aging in this manner – which Edivo calls the Sea Mystery – produces some of the world’s most unique wines. You will sample several of them back on shore at the Edivo wine bar. You may be served a sweet red made from native Plavac Mali grapes and a semi-dry white blend from grapes grown in three different regions of Croatia.

    HIGHLIGHTS
    • Dive beneath the sea off the coast of Drace and view an underwater wine cellar.
    • Learn how this unusual aging process affects the tastes of the wines.
    • Sample several wines aged underwater in the Edivo wine cellar back on shore.

As you walk along the main street, known as the Stradun, you may see highlights such as Saint Savior Church, the polygonal Fountain of Onofrio and the Old Pharmacy, which was founded in 1317. Explore Old Town at your own pace for as long as you wish, perhaps walking atop the medieval walls, visiting historical churches and browsing the many boutiques.

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive at Pile Gate, the primary entrance to Dubrovnik’s Old Town, an area so culturally significant that it has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage site. From this point, you will explore on your own.

For an excellent overview of Old Town, you might climb the stairs and walk atop the remarkably thick, 13th-century walls. The full circuit is over a mile, but it’s worth every step, as the ever-changing views of the sea and medieval Old Town are stunning.

You can also expect to see several imposing fortresses such as St. John’s, which guards the entrance to the harbor. The Maritime Museum occupies part of the fortress and presents the area’s maritime heritage through artifacts and documents.

Old Town’s main street, the Stradun, is just as captivating. Meandering along you might pass the ornate Cathedral of the Assumption, the 16th-century Sponza Palace, and the polygonal Onofrio Fountain, which supplied Dubrovnik with water for more than 500 years.

When you get hungry, use the supplied voucher for a traditional, crepe-like pancake at Cele Dubrovnik Gourmet & Lounge. Another voucher for the cable car will take you to the top of Srdj Hill for a sweeping view of Old Town. When you are finished exploring, simply take the shuttle bus back to the pier.

A deeper immersion into wine-making follows, starting at the Vodopic Vineyard, where Marastina, Merlot and Malvasia grapes flourish. The exact wines for sampling will be chosen upon your arrival. The same holds true at the Ivo Karaman Winery, where you will not only taste a selection of delightful wines but also savor a traditional peasant’s brunch of bacon and onions.
