Explore the wonders of our island home and learn about our Hawaiian culture, the creation of our islands, and the many plants and animals that thrive in our tropical environment. At Panaewa Rainforest Zoo, America’s only rainforest zoo, you will see over 100 varieties of palms and displays of native and introduced plants. You may view the production process, from tree to package, and walk around the garden setting surrounded by the 250,000 mac nut tree orchard. Next you’ll walk along the sites in Lava Tree State Park. The sites will amaze you, as the lava trees and your driver/narrator tell the story of when a native Ohia forest was overrun by lava flows in the late 1700s. On our way to Ahalanui Park, you will see the flow fields of the eruption that destroyed the village of Kapoho in 1960. Experience life on the planet’s most active volcano during this deluxe tour to Kilauea. Meet your guide for the day and board your tour vehicle. The drive to the volcano will take you through Banyan Drive where visiting dignitaries such as Babe Ruth, Cecil B. DeMille, and then-Senator Richard Nixon planted the famed Banyan trees. The drive also takes you past the waterfront Japanese Gardens of Queen Liliuokalani. The lush greenery of Hilo gives way to stark black basalt lava flows in Kalapana, a village completely destroyed by the advancing lava flows just a few years ago. Your first stop is the Painted Church. Now decommissioned, it was moved by determined villagers not once but twice to evade the molten lava flows. Next, you'll walk across the recent lava flows to the newest black sand beach on the island. You'll witness how the volcano engulfed everything in it’s path, even completely filling in Kaimu Bay with molten lava. This walk takes you over what once was the best swimming beach on Hawaii Island. Continue along the scenic Puna coastline to view the jagged lava cliffs of MacKenzie State Park. Then your guide will share a volcanically heated lava cove where you can take a refreshing dip or snorkel looking for tropical fish and the occasional giant green sea turtle. Finally, you'll visit Lava Tree State Park to view the incredible lava formations found here. Left behind in a sudden lava flow in 1790, the hot lava cooled around the native Ohia trees in black rock formations that must be seen to be believed. Your return drive will take you through Hilo. A Hawaiian-style barbecue lunch, which includes complimentary beer and French Champagne, is prepared by your guide along the way, and special dietary needs are happily accommodated with advance notice. There are opportunities to purchase local products and souvenirs along the way. Note: Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes, and bring a swimsuit and towel. Tour capacity is limited, molten lava will not be seen, and order of itinerary may change. Participants must be at least 4 years of age. less

Hike with Hawaii's "Eco Tour Company of the Year," an award-winning, long-time Maui tour company. You’ll walk through the lush rainforest along two streams dotted with several waterfalls from 10 to 40 feet high, each with a large pond perfect for swimming or toe-dipping. It’s unusual for a Hawaiian valley to have this many waterfalls close together, so this is a very popular valley along Maui’s famous Hana Highway. Great waterfalls, big clear swimming pools, gorgeous bamboo and tropical rainforests, freshwater streams - the whole area is a playground of beauty and adventure. And there is nothing like 'showering' under a Hawaiian waterfall. This hiking company is well-known for their knowledgeable, naturalist guides who provide a fascinating narrative on Hawaii's unique ecosystems. The hike is two miles round trip and footing can be tricky in the forest. Note: Participants must be at least 6 years of age. Wear a swimsuit, bring a towel and wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet and muddy. Water shoes are suggested. Day packs, bottled water, mosquito repellent and rain wear will be provided. less

Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane designed the Bay Course. The forerunner of Kapalua's two championship golf courses, the Bay Course is a 6,600 yard par 72 with gently rolling fairways and generous greens. One of the many highlights of the course includes Kapalua’s version of “Amen Corner,” the fourth and fifth holes. On a lava peninsula that carves two pristine bays, hole #4 has ocean breezes and uninterrupted views of the coast. Bay’s signature hole #5 is a par 3 that requires you to carry over sparkling Oneloa Bay to a small green protected by bunkers. The Bay Course has hosted multiple PGA and LPGA Tour Events and is an excellent example of resort golf at its best. Note: Greens fees, cart rentals and round-trip transportation to and from the course is included. Par 72, Yardage 5,225-6,954, Slope 113-135. Close your eyes and imagine playing golf with the Pacific Ocean stretching out before you and Mount Haupu towering above. So serene is the backdrop, you can get lost in the joys of the game. But don't let your mind wander too far, because Puakea can be every bit the challenge you seek. Par: 72, Yardage 6,755. Dominating Maui's skyline is the majestic 10,023-foot dormant volcano, Mt. Haleakala. Meandering across her lower foothills are the pristine fairways of the Wailea Old Blue Course. Stretching 6,765 yards from its tips, this classic Arthur Jack Snyder beauty has charmed her way into the heart of many a Wailea golfer. With cooling fountains, serene lakes, exotic blossoms and coral sand bunkers, the Old Blue is a true Hawaiian resort course. Her immaculate fairways are woven through the resort, offering a picturesque 'tour' of Wailea, with spectacular views of the azure ocean and dramatic volcanic slopes. Her graceful design and generous fairways offer a pleasing repast for 'weekend' golfers, but elevation changes and strategically placed hazards have tested some of the best professional players. Like Wailea's other courses, ocean vistas are to be found at every hole. In fact, years back when the LPGA Women's Kemper Open was played here, tournament officials had to admonish some of the competitors for slow play. Turns out the pros were dallying at the 12th hole to do a little whale watching. Note: Greens fees, cart rentals and round-trip transportation to and from the course is included.
