Spend a delightful day touring and dining at a family estate in a mountain village and then explore medieval Kotor, where you will be treated to a rare interior visit of a church.

After departing from the pier, you will begin an immensely scenic and circuitous drive toward Fort Gorazda, a 19th-century fortress that overlooks Kotor and its fjord-like bay. The views will be extraordinary as you travel ever higher into the mountains, where you will pause for photos of the majestic beauty.

Before long, you will arrive at the Kascelan family estate in the village of Mirac. During an enlightening walking tour of the property with the owners, you will gain a sincere understanding of rural life. The estate vineyards are devoted to different types of grapes including Vranac, a varietal synonymous with Montenegro.

Following the walking tour, you will sample a selection of wines produced on the estate while savoring a meal made entirely with organic ingredients. The exact dishes will depend on the season, but you can be sure that they will reflect Montenegro’s traditional cuisine.

Back in Kotor, you will enjoy a walking tour of the Old Town, a wonderfully atmospheric medieval quarter with narrow winding streets, lovely squares and ornate palaces. Enjoy an insider’s tour of the olive groves on a family estate and then visit two olive mills for a tasting of the so-called “liquid gold” from freshly pressed olives.

After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a spectacularly scenic drive to the Lustica peninsula, where a local family will welcome you to their estate. During a leisurely walking tour of the olive groves, you will learn how the trees are pruned and tended, the best times to harvest the olives and how the olives are pressed to produce oil. You will then walk to a nearby village to see a historical olive press and the newer olive mill that replaced it.

Historians believe that the Greeks introduced olive trees to Montenegro when they founded coastal colonies there in the 4th century BC. Olive trees can produce fruit for well over 100 years, and after a taste of freshly pressed olive oil from these ancient trees, you will understand why they are so coveted. You will also be served local delicacies that taste even more delicious when dipped in extra virgin olive oil.

Start your tour with a short walk to Kotor, which is well-preserved and surrounded by a protective wall built in the Middle Ages. Discover the Renaissance-style 18th-century Prince’s Palace and the striking Romanesque Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, one of Kotor’s largest and most revered buildings, built in 1166 to honor the patron and protector of the city. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of Kotor’s past as you explore these iconic steppingstones of Montenegrin history. Board your coach and continue along steep slopes to Nevjesta Jadrana venue with the best view of Boka Bay. This is an area of powerful contrasts. To one side towers the cold Montenegrian mountains and opposite them you will find the wealth and mildness of one of the most beautiful bays in the world. The road carries you on to 15th-century Cetinje, once the Montenegrin capital, and Kotor’s medieval fortified Old Town, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Following a route that inspired playwright George Bernard Shaw to wax poetic about its beauty, you’ll understand his enchantment as you pass majestic mountains on one side and a sparkling cerulean bay on the other. In Cetinje, the former center of Montenegrin rule, visit the neoclassical Museum of King Nikola, once a palace and seat of the Montenegrin royal family. Settle in for a captivating ride along the Budva Riviera, a resort area known for its nearly eight miles of sun-drenched beaches. You’ll journey to the Carpet shop in Grbalj plain. The invention of the rugs and kilims originated from the need to cover the bare grounds inside the tents, in order to warm it as much as possible (nothing is better than wool). Invertors of rugs and kilims were semi nomads and nomads living of the sheep rearing. After little bit more than a century of pause, the 500-year long Osman influence returns to Montenegro in a form of the oriental handmade rugs and kilims. Great variety of rugs and kilims, all kinds of sizes, designs and colors are here to floor your home. The experienced staff will gladly help you choose the ones that will suit your home and stay for following generations adding up in value over the years. Every product is made by hand and will be issued with a certificate of origin. Free home delivery is provided worldwide. Paddle a kayak through the sheltered waters of the Bay of Kotor, admiring the natural beauty of the fjord-like landscape and the walled medieval city of Kotor.

After a short walk from the pier, you will arrive at the kayak station for a brief orientation to ensure that you will get the most out of this outdoor experience. You will then ease into a kayak and paddle out into the magnificent Bay of Kotor, known locally as “Boka.”

Sheltered by limestone mountains, the water is typically calm and ideal for kayaking. The landscape in every direction will be immensely picturesque with cliffs so precipitous that the bay is often referred to as the southernmost fjord in Europe. It’s that stunningly beautiful.

From the sea-level vantage point of the kayak, you will enjoy a unique perspective of Kotor. You will clearly see the medieval defensive walls that protected the city for centuries and the spires of historical churches that dot the distinctive skyline. UNESCO considers the city so culturally important that it has named Kotor a “World Natural and Historical Heritage Site.”

As you paddle along the nearly four-mile route, the guide will point out architectural highlights and natural wonders, so your understanding of the area will be all the more in depth. You will also have the opportunity to take a refreshing swim and snorkel in the bay’s crystal-clear waters. Following your kayaking adventure, you will walk back to the pier.

After departing from the pier in a sleek catamaran, you will soon be sailing across the heart of Boka Bay. The surrounding landscape is so wild and the cliffs so precipitous that the bay is often referred to as the southernmost fjord in Europe. It’s that stunningly beautiful.

In time, the ancient village of Perast will come into view. Like Kotor, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with extraordinary Venetian-style architecture and abundant Catholic churches. One of the most beautiful churches is Our Lady of the Rocks, which sits on a tiny island in the bay. As you circumnavigate the island, you can expect to hear the legend of how it was formed—supposedly by sailors who dropped rocks in the same spot every time they sailed by in honor of the image of the Virgin Mary being seen there.

Then it’s on to the exclusive Movida Beach Club, where you might stroll along the sea, take a refreshing swim in the typically calm waters and relax in a lounge chair under the shade of an umbrella. The scenery is just as impressive as the beach, and you will have plenty of time to soak it in before boarding a coach and driving back to the pier.

Ride a motorized tuk-tuk around a spectacularly scenic peninsula that juts into the Bay of Kotor, stopping at the most dramatic points for photos and exploration on your own.

After departing from the pier, you will follow a coastal road along the gorgeous Bay of Kotor, first passing through the fishing village of Muo. You will travel by tuk-tuk, an open-air covered vehicle originally named for the sound of its engine. Modern engines are noticeably quieter, and the tuk-tuk is now one of the most desirable ways to get around.

Upon arriving in Prcanj, you will pause for photos of Our Lady’s Temple. Built in the Baroque style over the course of 120 years, the church finally opened in 1909. The lengthy construction was worth the wait. Corinthian and Doric columns adorn the façade, the entry features a glorious double staircase, and the two gilded altars are considered masterworks.

Continuing on to an elevated vantage point overlooking the Verige Strait, you will pause again for photos. The church that will be visible on the teeny island in the strait is Our Lady of the Rocks, which dates to 1722. It’s now used primarily as a Catholic cultural center.

Your next stop will be Porto Montenegro, one of the most luxurious marinas on the Adriatic Sea. During leisure time, you might admire the super-yachts or browse the high-end shops. Then, it’s back to Kotor with a stop at Mount Vrmac to take in the magnificent view.

Stroll the atmospheric streets in Budva’s medieval Old Town and then visit a shop that specializes in kilims, a style of woolen carpet first produced thousands of years ago.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a leisurely drive through the countryside to Budva, one of the oldest settlements in the Balkans. While meandering through the medieval Old Town (known as Stari Grad), you can’t help but be struck by the gorgeous setting. English poet Lord Bryon described it as “the most beautiful meeting of land and sea.”

As you will discover during the guided tour and free time that follows, Budva is still remarkable, especially its idyllic setting on an island-dotted bay. You can expect to see historical churches, the 15th-century ramparts and charming squares lined with boutiques.

Continuing on into the Grbalj plain between Budva and Kotor, you will visit a shop that sells kilim carpets. While “kilim” is a word of Turkish origin, this style of flat-weave carpet is produced in many countries, including Montenegro. The weaving technique favors diagonal and geometrical patterns with wool being the preferred material because of its durability.

Following a presentation on how kilim carpets are produced, you might purchase one. Each carpet comes with a certificate of origin and can be shipped anywhere in the world.

Next you will enjoy a guided tour of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site hailed for its architectural significance.

For the fit and active person who wants to learn about the history of this beautiful town and have the most amazing views, this tour is worth every one of the 1,350 zigzagging steps to the top. Start with an orientation walk of Kotor and see its squares, cathedral, Maritime Museum, churches, noblemen houses and terraces. The medieval city of Kotor has a turbulent history of invasions. It was watched over and defended by an imposing network of towers, bastions and ramparts built along the cliffs of Mount Sveti Ivan or St John.

Several times they stopped the invaders who retreated before the walls, enchanted by their grandiosity. Although the size of the walls caused awe, they could not do much without a good defense within the city. Follow your guide up, making stops along the way. The first plateau is the bastion of St. Roko. You’ll also make a stop to visit the church of our Lady of the Health. With your ship in the bay and the red tiled roof tops in contrast, the views are simply spectacular!
