Harvest Caye

Located in Southern Belize, Harvest Caye is a 75-acre resort-style destination that offers everything from a seven-acre beach to the world's second largest barrier reef. The island reflects the Company's commitment to elevating the guest experience across its fleet and private destinations. 

A unique feature of Harvest Caye is its authentic local connection. Owned in partnership with the Belizean government, the destination is fully integrated into the local economy: 

• All restaurants, bars, and retail shops are Belizean-owned and operated, offering guests a genuine taste of Central American culture. 
• All team members on the island are local Belizeans, providing warm and knowledgeable service rooted in the region’s hospitality. 

Harvest Caye also boasts several standout features: 

• It is the only cruise destination in Belize with a pier capable of accommodating large cruise ships, allowing for easy, tender-free access. 
• The island is frequently recognized by guests as Central America’s premier island destination. 
• Guests can explore the nearby Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world, which includes a 190-mile (300 km) section of the 560-mile (900 km) Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System.

Sustainability and Conservation

• As part of NCL’s efforts to preserve wildlife and further education, Harvest Caye is also home to a wildlife sanctuary under the care of Tony Garel, an esteemed Belizean naturalist and wildlife expert.
• Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., parent company of NCL, partnered with Belize Island Holdings ltd. (BIHL) to establish the Harvest Caye Conservation Foundation (HCCF) in 2016, a non-governmental organization whose primary goal is to promote wildlife conservation
• The Island hosts a reptile terrarium, a butterfly garden and several aviaries featuring rescued birds of paradise. All exhibits are operated by the Harvest Caye Conservation Foundation to promote wildlife preservation and education
• In 2018, a thorough environmental impact assessment was carried out to help shape the development and operations of the island. The goal was to reduce any negative impacts to biodiversity and enhance the overall benefits to society and wildlife conservation.
• Harvest Caye is also one of the few nesting sites for endangered hawks bill turtles, NCL team members participate in protecting and monitoring nesting grounds each year to help baby turtles get a good start on survival
• Over the years, the team in Harvest Caye has planted over 10,000 red mangroves. Additionally, Harvest Caye established a mangrove nursery and collaborated with local schools to get students, alongside employees, involved in planting the mangroves
