Praia is the capital of Cape Verde, a chain of islands off the West African coast. Founded in the 17th century by the Portuguese, Cape Verde declared independence in 1975. The city is located on Santiago Island – the country’s largest, and is considered the economic, tourist and cultural centre of Cape Verde. Here, African and Portuguese history and culture combine to create a beautiful and exciting atmosphere.
