Historical Philipsburg by Bicycle

Experience St Maarten's unique past as you take a leisure bicycle ride through its historically-rich streets. Your guide will lead you into the heart of town, where you will have the chance to stop at various points of interest to learn about the island’s turbulent past and rich culture. You will get up close to the famous salt pond, talk to a local artist, visit important landmarks, and enjoy several fun photo opportunities. Of course your day will not be complete without a dip in the pristine waters of Great Bay before heading back to Port.
Your guide will meet you at the entrance to the cruise ship terminal and give you a short lesson on the operation of your Trek bicycle. You will start riding along the Point Blanche road in the capital, Philipsburg. Your first historical stop will be at the Old Court House where you will learn some of St. Maarten’s geographical and political history. Continue to the Great Salt Pond, where your guide will talk about the island’s important salt trade. You will then visit Carnival Village before heading over the Ring Road and on to the boardwalk to meet a local artist and pause for a cold drink. Next you will stop at the Walter Plantz Plaza, where you can dip in the pristine blue waters of the Great Bay and enjoy a fresh shower before heading back to your ship.
Need to Know:
Note: Wear comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, hat and sunscreen, and a towel if you plan to swim. Guests must be at least 12 years of age and 153 cm/5 ft. in height to take part. Guests must wear closed-toed sports shoes to take part in the tour.
