Explore Karkala, a town of historical importance and the thousand pillar temple of Moodabidri. Enjoy a scenic drive to Karkala, a historically important town and pilgrimage center for Jains, followers of one of the oldest religions in the world. The town is famous for its second largest monolithic stone statue of Lord Gommateshwara which dates back to 1432 AD. You’ll have free time to explore the site and take photos.


Visit a farm recognized for innovative agriculture and see its multi-story mixed cropping and the wide variety of tropical fruits and spices that are grown here. Enjoy a light refreshment before boarding your coach and driving to Moodabidri and its thousand pillar temple - Tribhuvana Tilaka Chudamani Basadi. Visit the largest and the most ornate of the Jain temples of this region built in 1430 A.D. Moodabidri is an immense granite structure famous for its open pillared front hall that consists of a thousand elaborately carved pillars.


Need to Know:

Note: Participants should be in good physical condition as there is a considerable amount of walking and 212 steps to negotiate at the Lord Gommateshwara statue. As tour visits a religious site, please dress appropriately - no bare shoulders, shorts, or skirts above the knee- no leather items are permitted inside the temple. Slip-on shoes are recommended as shoes must be removed before entering the temple.
