OVERVIEW

View Tromsø from an aerial perspective while ascending Mt. Storsteinen on a cable car and through attractions that highlight the city’s unusual character. On the approach to the Tromsdalen Church – or the Arctic Cathedral as it is commonly called – you can’t help but admire its steep triangular shape, which aluminum-coated concrete slabs cover. The interior is also starkly simple yet dramatic, especially its glass mosaic with three symbolic luminous rays emanating from the hand of God. The Tromsø Museum is noteworthy for its focus on the natural world, especially in depicting how plants and animals have adapted to the Arctic environment. Highlights include a whale skeleton, a nugget of solid gold and a giant fossilized ichtyosaurus, an extinct marine reptile from the Jurassic Age. Riding in a Tromsø cable car will present the ultimate view of the city and your cruise ship in port. The higher you go, the more panoramic the sights.

Note: It is recommended to book this excursion AFTER you have your flight information in order to avoid cancellation. Tour begins approximate 1 hour after ships’ arrival with a duration of about 3 hours. Suggested flight departure should begin no sooner than 3 hours after tour completion. It is not recommended for guests who utilize a wheelchair. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Order of sites may vary. Arctic Cathedral is a parish church it can close on short notice for regular church services. In this case, the visit will be outside. In the case of funerals, it is not possible for exterior photo stop either. Cable car weather depending and can be closed on short notice in adverse conditions and wind. Debark shore excursions will only be available to book 50 days prior to sailing. To avoid air ticketing conflicts, air must be ticketed before the debarkation shore excursion can be booked. This applies to independent air and air booked through NCL.
