Enjoy an enlightening tour of Cadiz that includes the atmospheric Old Quarter and the glorious interior of the city’s cathedral. Being the oldest continuously occupied city in Western Europe, Cadiz exudes history, as you will discover in the medieval Plaza of San Juan de Dios. Highlights there include the wonderfully ornate town hall erected in 1799. While meandering the labyrinthine streets of the Old Quarter, you will come upon the Neoclassical-style Cadiz Cathedral. Its most impressive features include a yellow-tiled dome, vaults of the high altar and choir stalls. Continuing on, you will meander through the Plaza de Flores, named for the open-air flower market at its heart. Plaza de la Candelaria is less well-known but not less memorable. Lined with fragrant orange trees, ironwork lamps and park benches, it is an urban oasis. After pausing for tapas and a drink at the Central Market, you will see Plaza de España, whose monument commemorates the Constitution of 1812.
