OVERVIEW

Stroll through a virginal forest in the Lokobe Natural Reserve, where you may see colorful birds and endemic species such as black lemurs, before relaxing on the reserve’s beach. Board a small boat for a brief cruise across the bay to the densely forested Lokobe Natural Reserve, which protects most of the island’s native vegetation and several species of animals, including the black lemur. As you walk through the reserve, you might spot one of these curious-looking, social creatures, which are primitive relatives to monkeys and apes, and notice the males are black while the females are rust-colored. Watch for Madagascar pygmy kingfishers, Madagascar long-eared owls, sleek snakes, leaf-tailed geckos and boldly colored panther chameleons. Following your guided walk through the forest, you’ll spend approximately one hour relaxing or taking a cooling dip at the beach. Celebrate a performance of traditional folk dancing by Sakalavan women, the island’s original and most prevalent ethnic group, and enjoy a snack and beverages surrounded by the wonders of this lush land.
