OVERVIEW

Drive along the dramatically scenic Atlantic Ocean Road to the village of Eide and raft across an underground lake in a marble quarry. Just settle in and enjoy the ride as you will pass through a glorious, naturally beautiful landscape dotted with quaint villages, zigzagging bridges and undersea tunnels. The technology needed to construct the road was so cutting-edge that the project was voted Norway’s Engineering Feat of the Century. The road will eventually take you to the village of Eide, where you will descend into a limestone and marble quarry that the same family has operated since 1938. Over the decades, as the stone has been removed, the quarry’s heavy machinery has left behind miles of tunnels, caverns and a large underground lake. Rafting across the water is quite the experience as chandeliers and colored lights illuminate the way, giving the atmosphere a magical quality.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Follow an incredibly scenic road that was voted Norway’s Engineering Feat of the Century.
• Descend into a series of caves that were created when marble was quarried there.
• Ride a wooden raft across an underground lake, which is eerily illuminated.
