Kroschel Wildlife Refuge

Interact with some of Alaska's most iconic animals at the Kroschel Wildlife Center, a wilderness reserve for orphaned and injured creatures. The drive there will set the stage for this hands-on experience as you will travel through the Chilkat Mountains, a forested area where many of the animals were rescued. As an introduction, Steve Kroschel will describe how he founded his namesake reserve and demonstrate how the caretakers work with the rescued animals to assist in their recovery. He may feed them as well, so you can see their special dietary needs are met. It will then be your turn to interact with the wildlife, which may include wolf pups, caribou, pine martens and foxes. The center is also home to birds of prey such as the majestic snowy owl, which is almost entirely white when fully grown. You can expect your one-on-one experiences with the animals to be immensely fulfilling and enlightening.
