I will be staying in Suite #8000 Pride of America 8/4/2018 and wanted to know about the balcony? How is the size?

I would love to know where the jacuzzi is located. I read in a review that there was an obstructed view which seemed strange. Please advise and Thank You
Asked by: Lahna
You can click on the Deck Plans or Staterooms links above to see a floor plan and sample photos of your room. The location of the spa and the approximate size of the room and balcony are shown on the floor plan. Also, if you refer back to the photo of the ship on the main page you can see that there is only a small opening in the forward hull of the ship, perhaps four or five feet high and about six feet wide, where your balcony is located. This partial enclosure of your balcony provides you some additional privacy as well as reducing the incidence of wind or waves crashing on your balcony (yes, the waves sometimes do splash as high as Deck 8!) but it does somewhat limit the scenic vista from your balcony, so it is listed as an obstructed view.

Where are the designated smoking areas on the Pride of America? A map or a good description of their location would be helpful

Asked by: azkarter
When I was on the PoA a year ago, the designated smoking area was the port side of the pool deck. It may have changed since then, but there will be signage to indicate where smoking is allowed. It is not allowed in your stateroom, on your balcony, or in any other public area of the ship unless specifically designated as a smoking area.

What is the dress code for any resturant

Asked by: DavdD
Cruise casual is the term frequently used to describe the kind of clothing appropriate for most dining venues. The specific recommendations usually are posted at the hostess stand of each restaurant, but NCL rarely seems to make a concerted effort to enforce the rules. I have seen guests in torn jeans, tee shirts, and sandals dining in even the most exclusive restaurants on board. NCL posts the suggested attire, then leaves it to the judgement of the guests to dress appropriately. For more details, please see this link:

question on soda beverage package

does the Pride of America have the automatic soda machines that use the cups, or do you have to go to a bar to get refills ? does the guest's card have something to indicate the beverage package so you don't always have to carry the cup ?
Asked by: cherfae
There are no automatic soda vending stations on the ship, You can order sodas at any of the restaurants or bars, and you are not required to use the special cup that you will receive with the soda package. When you check in at the cruise terminal in Honolulu, be sure to check your key card. It should have a code printed next to your name to indicate any packages you have purchased or have been given as part of a promotion. Bartenders and waiters will look for the code on your card and you will not be charged for your sodas.

How soon can we board the ship. I know we have to be on board by 5 pm.

Asked by: mollyrose
The check-in process begins around 11:00 or 11:30, with boarding usually starting about noon. In an effort to spread out the crowds for a more orderly check-in experience, NCL assigns passengers a check-in time ranging from about 11:00 through mid-afternoon. You can check your cruise documents to find your scheduled arrival time.

Is there any irons available so I can press my dress shirts

Asked by: nurlind
There are no irons in the rooms, but there are a few which you can borrow briefly from the Housekeeping Department. Just ask your stateroom attendant or someone at the Guest Services Desk.

When do they send out emails about room upgrade bid opportunities ?

Asked by: DG65
It depends upon many factors, including the occupancy levels for the cruise. If the cabins sell out quickly, there may be no offers for upgrades at all. If the cruise is slow to sell out, the offers may be made sooner. In general, though, they usually are made about two months before the cruise. The type and number of offers vary per passenger and may depend on many factors, including the kind of cabin you already have booked, when you made your reservation, how much you already have paid, and perhaps your status in the Latitudes program. You will need to provide credit card information when you place your bid or bids, and you may modify or withdraw your bid at any time up until it is accepted by NCL. Once accepted, your card will be charged at once and you will not be able to rescind your offer.

Dietary Restrictions

My wife can only eat steamed fresh vegetables and meats that are cooked with salt and pepper only. No oils, no sauces and defiantly no additives or preservatives. Is this going to be a problem?
Asked by: JoeSill
It should not be a problem, but you should contact NCL directly at least a month in advance to inform them of your requirements, then mention it again to the Guest Services desk once you are on board. For more information, please see this link:

How is the volcano affecting the cruise?

Asked by: epfeil7
NCL has altered the itinerary of Hawai'ian cruises at least through the end of July 2018. There will be no stops at the island of Hawai'i. There will be an additional day on Maui, and the ship will spend the first night of the cruise in port at Honolulu before departing Oahu the following day. Depending upon the changing status of the volcano, future cruises may also be affected, but at present the Pride of America is scheduled to resume its regular schedule in August.
