This river kayak adventure takes you into the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge, home to many of Hawaii’s native wetland birds and plants, and not open to the general public. Keep your eyes peeled for the endangered nene – the Hawaiian goose that is the official state bird. You’ll paddle downriver for 2 1/2 miles and take a nature walk down an exotic forest trail.
A van will drive you to the head of a lush jungle trail where you’ll begin your 1/2 mile hike to two secluded waterfalls. The largest - Jungle Falls cascades down 50 feet to a shallow pool where you can relax and enjoy the tropical setting. Finish up with a picnic lunch on a bluff overlooking the Huleia Valley. The trail can be wet & muddy and there are uneven jungle steps to maneuver.
