OVERVIEW

Become immersed in Spessa Castle’s extraordinary history and wines during a behind-the-scenes tour and a tasting in the medieval cellar. Although a watchtower has been at this location since Roman times, the castle wasn’t built until the 13th century. The property has now transitioned into an elegant resort with restaurants, a spa and even a golf course. Wines are still at the heart of this legendary estate as you will discover by touring the vineyards, learning about the terroir and seeing how the wines are produced. They are aged in the cellar and in a World War II bunker that wasn’t discovered until the castle was renovated. During the tasting, you will be presented with three wines that will be thoughtfully paired with local delicacies. Chances are, the wines will include at least one from the Collio label. The pinot noir is named Casanova in homage to the gadabout writer who stayed at the castle in 1773.

Note: Coaches do not have a lift and entering and exiting must be done via stairs. This tour includes approximately 1 hour of walking and standing over even, and uneven surfaces. The sights on this tour are not wheelchair accessible; therefore, it is unavailable to wheelchair guests. Any allergies must be noted when booking the tour. The visit of the cellar includes approximately 10 steps . As this excursion involves standing and walking for periods of time of approximately 1 hour, those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable, flat walking shoes are suggested.
