Evening Wildlife & Sunset Cruise

OVERVIEW

Cruise on a catamaran into the sheltered waters off northern Chichagof Island at dusk, when the setting sun casts long shadows and colors the sky fiery hues of orange, red and yellow. The views will be magical as the sun begins to dip below the horizon, making the gorgeous seascape and surrounding mountains all the more memorable. These waters are nutrient-rich and attract marine life in great numbers, so you can expect to see frolicking otters, Stellar sea lions, harbor seals and Dall’s porpoises, which are easy to identify by their stout bodies and unique black and white markings. You may even spot a humpback whale breaching the water’s surface in the distance as it feeds to fatten up for its winter migration south. Be sure to scan the sky for bald eagles, which are also abundant and can commonly be seen plucking fish from the shallows with their razor-sharp talons.
